Alain St.Ange, the well known and respected Tourism Consultant who is based in Seychelles completes his part in official government training sessions in Almaty of Kazakhstan
Alain St.Ange, a well-known and respected Tourism Consultant from Seychelles, has completed his participation in official government training sessions in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Invited by ‘Visit Almaty’—the Almaty Tourism Department—St.Ange collaborated with Kazakh tourism expert and official guide Mrs. Zhanar Gabit, as well as Mr. Tom Buncle, Managing Director of ‘Yellow Railroad’ International Destination Consultancy. Together, they led training sessions specifically dedicated to Kazakhstan's tourism industry, targeting tourism-related managers and industry support personnel from various governmental fields, including tourist police, rescue services, destination management, museums, customs, and border guards.
Alain St.Ange, head of Saint Ange Tourism Consultancy and Vice President of the World Tourism Network (WTN), has had a distinguished career, including roles as Seychelles' Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports, and Marine, and as a candidate for Secretary-General of the UNWTO (now rebranded as UN Tourism). In 2020, he was also one of three candidates for the Seychelles presidential election. St.Ange currently oversees WTN's international relations with organizations such as WTTC, Destination International, and tourism ministers in 133 countries.
The Kazakhstan training sessions focused on empowering managers to train their teams on best practices for engaging with tourists, with the ultimate goal of enhancing Kazakhstan’s appeal as a tourist destination. Approximately 300 government delegates participated, divided into 10 groups of 30, with sessions running all day over two days.
“The general understanding of international tourism is average, but Kazakhstan, as a new destination on the world tourism map, still faces challenges in understanding how to engage with foreign tourists," noted a representative of the organizers. "This government-organized training program aims to underscore the importance of implementing international hospitality standards and fostering a ‘friendly’ environment for visitors. By doing so, we hope to build Kazakhstan’s global image as a welcoming tourist destination.”
St.Ange's sessions emphasized “What is Tourism” and the roles managers can play in consolidating tourism in Kazakhstan. He also encouraged Kazakh authorities to collaborate with other Central Asian nations to promote ‘Central Asia Tourism’ as a unique, unified destination.
"I was amazed by what Kazakhstan offers discerning travelers seeking a new destination. Within 30 minutes of Almaty city center, you can find breathtaking mountains with ski slopes currently blanketed in four feet of snow, rivers ideal for white-water rafting, and scenic lakes and deserts. Kazakhstan has remarkable natural assets and a unique Eurasian culture. With the right collaborative efforts and support from organizations like the World Tourism Network, Kazakhstan has the potential to develop tourism as a strong economic pillar alongside its abundant oil and gas resources," St.Ange said.
