Clevenard Celebrates Dr. Levy Mokgale Motebejane’s Leadership in Climate Action and Tourism Transformation Across Africa

Clevenard is pleased to announce and celebrate the outstanding leadership of Dr. Levy Mokgale Motebejane, Clevenard Director for South Africa and Member of the Council & Board, who successfully completed the prestigious Climate Change and Net Zero Transition Programme led by GCX, one of South Africa’s most experienced sustainability and climate advisory firms.

The training programme, held on 20 and 27 May 2026, delivered practical, high-level insights on how climate change is reshaping global markets, investment flows, and business resilience. Designed for decision-makers and industry leaders, the programme explored the financial implications of climate risk, evolving disclosure requirements, and the essential components of a credible and investment-ready Net Zero Transition Plan. Through real-world case studies and expert guidance, the training strengthened strategic thinking, enhanced governance, and improved readiness for operating in an increasingly climate-conscious global environment.

Dr. Motebejane’s participation marks a major milestone not only for Clevenard but also for Africa’s sustainability journey. His commitment to climate-smart leadership aligns with Clevenard’s mission to empower communities, industries, and governments across Africa and beyond through knowledge, innovation, and global collaboration.

Following the training, Dr. Motebejane delivered an inspiring message on the future of tourism in Africa, calling for the sector to be recognised as a powerful engine for economic transformation. He emphasised that tourism must no longer be viewed merely as leisure, but as a strategic catalyst for regional integration, youth empowerment, job creation, and global competitiveness. According to him, tourism stimulates a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, transport, trade, manufacturing, technology, arts, aviation, and cultural industries.

He highlighted that tourists generate demand far beyond hotels and travel services, creating opportunities for farmers, artists, transport operators, and small businesses across the continent. As one of the few sectors capable of generating foreign exchange, attracting investment, and supporting SMEs, Dr. Motebejane urged African governments to integrate tourism into national industrial and economic development strategies.

A key message he championed was the need to combat fragmentation within the continent’s tourism landscape. He stressed that Africa must reposition itself as a connected multi-destination ecosystem, offering travellers seamless access across borders. To achieve this, he outlined essential steps, including stronger regional cooperation, simplified visa systems, improved air connectivity, joint marketing efforts, and harmonised tourism standards and investment policies.

Dr. Motebejane reaffirmed that Africa’s diversity is not a challenge but its greatest asset. With unmatched cultural richness, wildlife, landscapes, history, and unique experiences, the continent can compete globally—provided collaboration between governments, investors, the private sector, and financial institutions remains central.

He reminded stakeholders that governments must create enabling environments through stable policy frameworks, infrastructure development, investment protection, and robust skills development. At the same time, the private sector must continue driving innovation, quality service delivery, and entrepreneurship. Human capital development, he added, is essential to unlocking the full potential of tourism and sustainability transitions.

Clevenard congratulates Dr. Levy Mokgale Motebejane for his exceptional dedication, vision, and contribution to advancing climate leadership and sustainable tourism. The organisation also recognises GCX for delivering world-class climate training that equips African leaders with the tools needed for a resilient, future-ready economy.

This milestone strengthens Clevenard’s ongoing commitment to supporting transformative leaders, fostering sustainable development, and championing Africa’s position in the global tourism and climate agenda.
