4-Day Tour from Marrakech to the Erg Chegaga Desert
An unforgettable journey through cinematic landscapes, Berber villages, and the majestic dunes of Chegaga.
Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Draa Valley – Zagora
Departure from Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka pass. We visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah (UNESCO site) and have lunch in Ouarzazate. Then we head to Agdz with a photo stop at Tizi-n-Tinififft (1660m). We continue our 4x4 journey through the lush Draa Valley to reach the desert town of Zagora. Dinner and overnight stay in the desert.
Day 2: Zagora – Tamegroute – M’hamid – Erg Chegaga
After breakfast, we visit the ancient Koranic library in Tamegroute, local pottery artisans, and the underground kasbah. We drive through the Tagounite oasis to M’hamid, the last village before the deep Sahara. After lunch, we continue by 4x4 to the incredible dunes of Erg Chegaga. Sunset in the dunes, followed by dinner and traditional music under the stars in a desert camp (haima).
Day 3: Erg Chegaga – Iriki Lake – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Ouarzazate
We recommend waking early to witness the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, we cross the desert past dry Iriki Lake and visit nomadic villages. Picnic lunch in an oasis before heading to Foum Zguid, Taznakht, and finally arriving in Ouarzazate. Free dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Telouet – Marrakech
On the way back to Marrakech, we explore the Fint Oasis and the Telouet Kasbah, enjoying the scenic views of the High Atlas. End of the tour upon arrival in Marrakech in the afternoon.
