MÁLAGA, Spain — Clevenard SL is pleased to announce that Seyi Akinsola, a British-Nigerian filmmaker, information technology consultant, photographer, entrepreneur and doctoral researcher, is scheduled to deliver a featured address on Day One of the Clevenard Open Project 2027, taking place from 22–25 June 2027 in Torremolinos, Málaga, Spain. He is also scheduled to receive an honorary award during the prestigious Clevenard Global Awards – 4th Edition, on 25 June 2027.
The four-day international event will take place at the Palacio de Congresos de Torremolinos, bringing together distinguished leaders, academics, entrepreneurs, policymakers, investors and creative professionals to celebrate achievement, encourage international collaboration and explore opportunities across business, education, culture, technology and the creative industries.
A key feature of the programme, the Clevenard Global Awards will recognise individuals whose professional contributions, leadership and influence help create opportunities and strengthen connections across communities and countries.
A multidisciplinary professional bridging film, technology and culture
Seyi Akinsola represents a distinctive combination of creative storytelling, technological expertise, business enterprise and academic research. Originally from Ijebu-Jesa in Osun State, Nigeria, and based in Gloucestershire, United Kingdom, he has developed a career that connects Nigerian cultural expression with international audiences and contemporary technology.
With academic foundations in theatre arts and information technology, Akinsola brings a multidisciplinary perspective to the evolving relationship between creativity, innovation and global cultural influence.
His professional journey reflects the growing importance of individuals who can operate across industries, connecting artistic vision with technical knowledge, entrepreneurial initiative and research.
Advancing Nigerian storytelling through film
Akinsola is a producer and co-founder of Astrocraft Productions Limited, where his filmmaking interests include Nollywood, Yoruba storytelling and the international distribution of Nigerian films.
His film credits include OGBEDUN, a Yoruba epic released in cinemas in November 2024 and subsequently released in Côte d’Ivoire in March 2025. He also co-produced Okinni with Professor Akande, with Okinni 2 among his recent production projects. Other film works include Ebiti, Dieko and Imodoye.
Beyond production, Akinsola is interested in how Nigerian films reach audiences through cinema exhibition, online video platforms and streaming services. His work engages with important questions about distribution, audience development and the opportunities for Nigerian stories to gain greater visibility internationally.
His combined practical and academic interests position him to contribute meaningfully to discussions about the future of African cinema, the global circulation of cultural content and the role of film in strengthening international understanding.
Bringing technical expertise to the digital economy
Alongside his creative career, Akinsola has established substantial experience in information technology, working as an IT consultant, senior quality assurance analyst, QA Lead and senior test engineer.
His professional experience includes work with organisations such as AYVENS, British Petroleum, Transport for London, Avantis Education and BAE Systems, across financial services, education technology and engineering environments.
His technical expertise includes system and integration testing, regression testing, user acceptance testing, API testing and end-to-end quality assurance. He has also worked within Agile, Waterfall and V-Model delivery environments.
This experience reflects the value of technical quality, digital reliability and effective collaboration in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
Photography, creativity and entrepreneurship
Akinsola is also the owner and manager of Studio Five Photography in Quedgeley, Gloucester, United Kingdom.
The studio offers photography services including portraits, family and maternity sessions, and product imagery, alongside studio hire and services for other creatives. His work in photography extends his interest in visual storytelling into an entrepreneurial venture serving individuals, families and the creative community.
Through filmmaking, photography and technology, Akinsola demonstrates how professional skills can cross traditional industry boundaries and create new opportunities for innovation and enterprise.
Academic achievement and doctoral research
Akinsola's academic qualifications include:
- BA (Hons) in Theatre Arts — University of Ibadan
- MA in Theatre Arts — University of Ibadan
- MSc in Information Technology — University of the West of England, Bristol
- PhD research in progress — University of Ibadan
His doctoral research, titled “Film Distribution and Cultural Diplomacy: Nollywood as a Tool for Nigeria’s Soft Power,” examines the relationship between the international circulation of Nigerian films, cultural influence and Nigeria’s global image. His research interests include diaspora audiences and the opportunities presented by streaming platforms.
His master's dissertation, “An Exploration of Distribution Strategies in Nollywood Film Industry: A Case Study of A Tribe Called Judah and Jagun Jagun,” provides a foundation for this continuing investigation.
By combining filmmaking practice with academic research, Akinsola explores how film distribution can extend cultural reach, deepen connections with diaspora communities and contribute to Nigeria’s international cultural presence.
Day One address: Connecting creativity, technology and cultural diplomacy
On 22 June 2027, Akinsola is scheduled to speak during the Global Authors’ Recognition & Education Summit, the opening-day programme of the Clevenard Open Project 2027.
His address will provide an opportunity to share perspectives informed by his experience across film production, information technology, photography and doctoral research into Nollywood and cultural diplomacy.
His participation will contribute to the wider event’s focus on education, knowledge exchange, creative achievement and the power of international collaboration.
Honorary recognition at the Clevenard Global Awards
Akinsola is scheduled to receive an honorary award on Friday, 25 June 2027, during the Clevenard Global Awards ceremony, which forms part of the final day of the Clevenard Open Project.
