Yahaya Jawula, will receive a prestigious Honorary Award at the Clevenard Open Project 2027 – 6th Edition and Clevenard Global Awards – 4th Edition, taking place from 22–25 June 2027 at the Palacio de Congresos de Torremolinos in Torremolinos, Málaga, Spain.

This distinguished recognition celebrates Kulu Yahaya-Jawula’s remarkable journey across international sport, academic achievement, professional excellence, and creative writing. Kulu Yahaya-Jawula’s life journey is a compelling story of overcoming adversity, pursuing excellence, and transforming personal experiences into opportunities for growth and inspiration.

A Ghanaian-American author, finance professional, and former international footballer, Kulu faced significant challenges following the death of her father, which interrupted her education during high school. During this difficult period, football became a source of direction, discipline, and hope.

Her determination and sporting talent led her to captain Ashaiman Ladies and represent Ghana at the inaugural African Women’s Championship in 1998, now known as the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. She subsequently became a member of Ghana’s squad for the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup, earning a place in the history of Ghanaian women’s football.

Her journey continued in the United States, where a scholarship enabled her to resume her education while pursuing football. Balancing academic responsibilities, employment, and competitive sport, she distinguished herself through dedication and outstanding performance. Her achievements include Defender of the Year honours, recognition as an ESPN Academic All-American, and induction into the Robert Morris University Athletic Hall of Fame, both individually and as part of a team.

Today, Kulu serves as an Associate Director in finance within the biopharmaceutical research and development sector, demonstrating her ability to excel beyond the sporting arena and build a successful professional career.

She is also preparing to make her literary debut with Shade From A Wilted Tree, a forthcoming epic fantasy romance inspired by West African culture and storytelling. Through her writing, she seeks to celebrate cultural heritage, explore imaginative worlds, and encourage young people to value their personal journeys and share their stories with confidence.
