Clevenard to Honour Dr. Taras Filenko at the Clevenard Open Project 2026 – 5th Edition and Clevenard Global Awards – 3rd Edition in Alicante, Spain

The distinguished honour will be presented on Sunday, 30 August 2026, during the Clevenard Global Awards – 3rd Edition, the flagship awards ceremony of the Clevenard Open Project, held alongside the prestigious International Fashion Runway at the Palacio de Congresos Alicante, Spain.

The Clevenard Global Awards recognize visionary leaders, innovators, scholars, artists, and humanitarians whose outstanding contributions have transformed communities and inspired positive change across nations and generations.

Honouring a Global Champion of Music, Culture, and Peace

For more than four decades, Dr. Taras Filenko has dedicated his life to preserving, promoting, and advancing Ukrainian musical heritage while fostering intercultural understanding through education, scholarship, and artistic excellence.

A graduate of the National Academy of Music in Kyiv, Dr. Filenko served on its faculty and later became Associate Dean of Conducting and Voice. He earned a Ph.D. in Historic Musicology from the Academy before completing a Doctorate in Ethnomusicology at the University of Pittsburgh, establishing himself as one of the world's foremost authorities on Ukrainian music and ethnomusicology.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Filenko has successfully combined the roles of scholar, educator, performer, conductor, and cultural advocate, presenting concerts and lectures across Europe and North America while promoting the works of Ukrainian composers to international audiences.

An Internationally Respected Scholar and Author

Dr. Filenko is the recipient of numerous prestigious academic honours, including two Fulbright Scholarships, reflecting his outstanding contributions to research, education, and international cultural exchange.

He has authored and co-authored more than 100 scholarly publications covering:

Among his most celebrated works is The World of Mykola Lysenko: Ethnic Identity, Music Culture and Politics, co-authored with Tamara Bulat and published in both English and Ukrainian, making a significant contribution to international scholarship on Ukrainian music and national identity.

Following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Dr. Filenko intensified his lifelong mission of preserving Ukrainian culture through music.

Believing that music can be a powerful force for peace, resilience, and cultural preservation, he has devoted countless volunteer hours to organizing and performing benefit concerts, educational lectures, and cultural presentations worldwide.

Each performance combines music, poetry, historical commentary, and visual storytelling to deepen international understanding of Ukraine's rich cultural heritage while highlighting the resilience of its people.

Working alongside musicians, poets, visual artists, universities, embassies, cultural organizations, and faith communities, Dr. Filenko has inspired audiences across the globe through artistic diplomacy.

Over the past year alone, Dr. Filenko has presented concerts, lectures, and masterclasses in:

These international engagements have been hosted by embassies, universities, cultural institutions, and houses of worship, many serving as humanitarian fundraising events that have generated substantial support for relief efforts while strengthening global solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

In recognition of these extraordinary contributions, Dr. Filenko was honoured as "Ukrainian of the Year" in late 2024 by the Ukrainian Technological Society of Pittsburgh.
