About Christopher (Chris) Moumakwe

Christopher (Chris) Moumakwe is widely recognised as one of Africa's pioneering digital marketing experts, having championed digital marketing across the continent long before the widespread adoption of social media. His visionary leadership has significantly influenced Africa's media, communications, and digital transformation landscape, inspiring businesses, institutions, governments, and young entrepreneurs to embrace innovation and technology-driven growth.

Beyond his achievements in digital media, Chris is an accomplished education innovator and the Founder of the STEAM Festival, a groundbreaking initiative that is transforming the way Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) are taught and experienced by young people. Through the creation of the STEAM Festival Revision Game Show – Season 2, he has pioneered an engaging, game-based learning model that makes science and mathematics exciting, accessible, practical, and easy to understand for learners of all backgrounds.

Working in partnership with the South African State Theatre, Chris has successfully combined Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) with SciArt, robotics, digital creativity, and interactive game-based learning to inspire thousands of learners across South Africa. His innovative educational approach is helping to cultivate curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills while encouraging young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and innovation. His work continues to bridge the gap between education, technology, and the creative industries, preparing Africa's future workforce for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

His remarkable achievements include being named the 2019 South African Men of the Year in the Media Category, an initiative of the South African Department of Social Development. He was also recognised among the 100 Mandelas of the Future, acknowledging his exceptional leadership, innovation, and unwavering commitment to social impact.

As the Founder of Afro Connect (Africa Connect Online), Christopher created one of Africa's pioneering digital platforms connecting people across 48 African countries. The platform was established to preserve and promote positive African narratives, celebrate African excellence, educate young people on responsible digital citizenship, and assist university students in building professional online portfolios that enhance employability. Since its inception, Afro Connect has created employment opportunities for more than 500 young people, demonstrating Christopher's enduring commitment to youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic development.

Christopher also serves on the Advisory Committee of the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), where he contributes to the development of its Journalism, Public Relations, and International Relations programmes. Through this role, he continues to mentor emerging professionals, strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, and equip future communication and media leaders with practical skills, global perspectives, and ethical leadership.

Christopher (Chris) Moumakwe's remarkable journey represents the powerful intersection of digital innovation, education, entrepreneurship, media excellence, and youth empowerment.
