Wednesday, 17 December 2025 – Mr. Guy Djoken, President of the U.S. Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers & Associations (USA FCUCA), Permanent Representative of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs (WFUCA) to the United Nations (UNDPI & ECOSOC), and Executive Director of the UNESCO Center for Peace, delivered a powerful and stirring keynote speech at the Clevenard 2025 Seminar and Panel Discussion Forum. Speaking on “The Search for Global Peace: The Case of Activism Without Borders,” Mr. Djoken called on leaders, activists, and citizens worldwide to embrace a vision of collaboration, cultural pride, and grassroots activism to achieve lasting peace.
In his address, Mr. Djoken opened with energy and warmth, engaging the audience with humor and personal anecdotes. He reflected on the global challenges of today, emphasizing that solutions require commitment beyond borders. He reminded attendees that peace is not only the work of governments or institutions but of everyday people willing to act courageously for justice and equity.
Quoting the renowned anthropologist Margaret Mead, he said: “Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world.” Mr. Djoken urged the audience to reflect on this, explaining that history shows that transformative change often begins with small, dedicated groups who challenge the status quo. He encouraged attendees to see themselves as part of that change.
Highlighting the importance of heritage and cultural connection, Mr. Djoken reminded the audience of Africa’s profound contributions to global civilization. From the wisdom of ancient Egypt to the journeys of scholars like Pythagoras, he emphasized that young generations must reclaim knowledge of their roots and pride in their history. “Our future is the past again,” he said, underscoring the continuity of African legacy and the responsibility of today’s leaders to honor it.
The speech also celebrated the presence of distinguished leaders, including Her Highness the Queen of the Zulu Nation, a High Queen and Minister from Burkina Faso, a Queen from Nigeria residing in the UK, and Senator Linda from Eswatini. Mr. Djoken highlighted their leadership as exemplars of activism and service, urging the audience to cultivate networks that transcend nations, generations, and continents.
Looking toward actionable initiatives, he invited attendees to participate in the 3rd Annual African Women Month Celebration in Washington, D.C., scheduled for March 20–21, 2026. Organized by his organization in partnership with the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), the event seeks to celebrate the contributions of African women globally and provide a platform for mentorship, dialogue, and empowerment.
Reflecting on his own career spanning nearly 30 years in the United States, Mr. Djoken described himself humorously as an “unrepentant troublemaker,” inspired by the activism of Congressman John Lewis and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He called on attendees to embrace “good trouble,” advocating for justice, equality, and peace without fear.
In recognition of his tireless work for human rights, education, and global peace, Mr. Djoken was honored with the Global Peace & Education Advocate of the Year Award at Clevenard 2025. His speech, marked by inspiration, personal reflection, and a call to collective action, reinforced the central theme of the forum: that activism without borders, fueled by dedication and collaboration, is the key to a more just and peaceful world.
Mr. Djoken concluded with a message of hope and unity: that the connections made at events like Clevenard 2025 are not fleeting, but the seeds for transformative change, bridging continents, cultures, and generations. “Let us ensure the next generation inherits a legacy that makes our children proud,” he said, leaving the audience energized and committed to action.
