H.E. Dr. Morie Komba Manyeh Receives Excellence in Diplomacy Award at Clevenard 2025, Unveils Vision for Unlocking Sierra Leone’s Tourism Potential

His Excellency Dr. Morie Komba Manyeh, Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, delivered a highly acclaimed and visionary address at the Clevenard 2025 Seminar and Panel Discussion Forum and Clevenard Awards 2025, where he was also honoured with the Excellence in Diplomacy, Diplomatic Leadership & Global Policy Impact Award. The award recognizes his outstanding contributions to international diplomacy, governance, policy leadership, and his sustained efforts in promoting Sierra Leone’s global image and strategic partnerships.

In his keynote address, titled “Unlocking Sierra Leone’s Tourism Potential: A Catalyst for Economic Growth, Trade, and Cultural Exchange,” Dr. Manyeh presented a compelling case for tourism as a transformative force capable of accelerating national development, strengthening international trade relations, and deepening cultural exchange. He emphasized that Sierra Leone’s most valuable tourism asset is not only its pristine beaches, lush forests, and rich biodiversity, but its people—known globally for their warmth, generosity, and welcoming spirit.

Dr. Manyeh noted that every interaction in Sierra Leone, from a smile to a shared meal, forms part of the national tourism experience. He underscored the belief that tourism is not the responsibility of a single institution, but a collective national mission, stating that tourism in Sierra Leone is truly everybody’s business. This people-centered approach, he explained, sets Sierra Leone apart as a destination where visitors do not merely travel, but feel a deep sense of belonging.

Highlighting the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, Dr. Manyeh explained that Sierra Leone continues to consolidate peace, democracy, and political stability, thereby creating a strong foundation for investment and tourism growth. He affirmed that the Government of Sierra Leone recognizes tourism as a key pillar of economic diversification and has taken bold and deliberate steps to make the country one of the most attractive destinations in West Africa.

He further outlined how progressive reforms, including investor-friendly policies, simplified visa processes, and major infrastructure developments, have significantly enhanced Sierra Leone’s tourism competitiveness. The modernization of Lungi International Airport, improvements to road networks leading to major tourism destinations, and reforms in business and land registration processes were cited as clear evidence of the government’s commitment to improving access, efficiency, and investor confidence.

Dr. Manyeh also emphasized the government’s strong focus on inclusive and sustainable tourism development. He highlighted initiatives that promote community-based tourism, ecotourism, environmental conservation, and the restoration of cultural heritage sites, ensuring that tourism growth delivers direct and lasting benefits to local communities. According to him, these efforts are not only protecting Sierra Leone’s natural and cultural assets, but also empowering communities as key stakeholders in national development.

The High Commissioner noted that Sierra Leone’s progress in tourism development is receiving growing international recognition. The country has been listed among Africa’s top emerging travel destinations, with its beaches earning ecotourism awards and its cultural festivals gaining global attention for their authenticity and vibrant expression of national identity. He also shared a recent personal encounter highlighting global interest in Sierra Leone’s environmental initiatives, citing the international attention being paid to the country’s tree-planting and sustainability efforts.

In extending an open invitation to the global community, Dr. Manyeh called on investors, tour operators, development partners, and creative industries across Europe and beyond to become part of Sierra Leone’s growth story. He encouraged them to explore the country’s beaches, forests, rivers, and mountains, and to invest in a nation committed to sustainability, inclusivity, and shared prosperity. He stressed that Sierra Leone offers not just opportunities, but partnerships rooted in trust, stability, and long-term vision.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Manyeh reaffirmed that tourism in Sierra Leone transcends economics. He described it as a national movement that creates jobs, protects the environment, preserves culture, and strengthens social unity. He emphasized that the true beauty of Sierra Leone lies in the unity, resilience, creativity, and hospitality of its people, inviting the world to experience firsthand a country where everyone matters and everyone belongs.

The Excellence in Diplomacy, Diplomatic Leadership & Global Policy Impact Award presented at Clevenard 2025 further underscores Dr. Manyeh’s distinguished career as a diplomat, academic, and statesman. Since his appointment as High Commissioner in October 2019, with accreditation to Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, and Norway, he has represented Sierra Leone with distinction on numerous international platforms, advocating for inclusive development, sustainable policies, and strengthened global cooperation. His participation and recognition at Clevenard 2025 reflect Sierra Leone’s growing influence on the global stage and its rising profile as a destination for tourism, trade, and investment.
