At the Clevenard Media Awards 2025, held on 21 November 2025, Jacqueline Victor-Mazeli was honoured with the prestigious award for “Excellence in Law, Human Rights, and Mediation.” She also delivered a powerful address on Law, Human Rights, and Mediation: Bridging Justice and Peace, reflecting on her distinguished legal career and her enduring commitment to justice, inclusion, and peaceful dispute resolution.

With nearly three decades of experience, Ms Victor-Mazeli began her career in Crown Courts across the United Kingdom and was swiftly recruited by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). She went on to become a Senior Crown Prosecutor, specialising in domestic violence and serious street crime—areas requiring exceptional legal expertise and a profound responsibility to protect the public.

Her career later expanded into senior prosecutorial roles with the Department for Work and Pensions, where she prosecuted complex and high-value fraud cases. She was also invited to work with TESOLL, supporting the Home Office on asylum and immigration matters, including advising on the drafting of decision letters for asylum seekers whose cases were being refused or expedited.

Ms Victor-Mazeli now practises as an immigration and human rights barrister, which form the core of her current legal work. She also practises family law, particularly in cases involving local authorities seeking to remove children from their families, as well as matters concerning child access and parental relationships following separation. Her practice consistently centres on safeguarding vulnerable individuals and upholding fundamental rights.

A significant milestone in her leadership journey was her appointment as Head of Chambers at Three Bolt Court Chambers, where she led a set of more than 40 barristers practising across employment, immigration, human rights, family, commercial law, and related disciplines. Reflecting on her leadership, Ms Victor-Mazeli noted that when she joined the Bar 28 years ago, the profession was markedly less inclusive. As both a woman and a woman of colour, she faced considerable barriers to progression. During her tenure as Head of Chambers, she actively championed diversity and inclusion, recruiting barristers from a wide range of backgrounds while maintaining the highest standards of legal excellence and ensuring the profession better reflected the communities it serves.

In addition to her legal practice, Ms Victor-Mazeli has made a significant impact through training and mentorship. She is a trainer and mentor at Middle Temple and volunteers with Bridging the Bar, an organisation dedicated to supporting aspiring barristers who face financial and structural barriers to entering the profession. Through advocacy training, mentorship, and access to financial support—particularly vital given the high cost of the Bar course—she has helped many talented individuals progress toward pupillage and practice.

She is also a strong advocate for mediation and alternative dispute resolution, which she described as essential tools for bridging justice and peace. Through her voluntary work with the Society of Mediators, she provides mediation services at the Royal Courts of Justice, encouraging parties to resolve disputes collaboratively before entering formal court proceedings. This work has received strong judicial support and has proven effective in reducing conflict, saving court time, and achieving more humane and sustainable outcomes. Even where disputes are not fully resolved, mediation frequently narrows the issues and shortens hearings significantly.

In accepting her award, Ms Victor-Mazeli emphasised the importance of collaboration across the legal profession and reaffirmed her commitment to access to justice, human rights, and peaceful dispute resolution. She is a founding member of Three Bolt Court Chambers, which offers expertise across housing, employment, immigration, human rights, crime, mediation, and arbitration.

The Clevenard Media Award for Excellence in Law, Human Rights, and Mediation recognises Ms Victor-Mazeli’s outstanding contribution to the legal profession, her leadership in promoting diversity, and her tireless work in advancing justice through both litigation and mediation.
