Lalyans Nouvo Sesel Calls for Action, Not Just Praise, for Seychelles’ Nurses

Date: 12 May 2025 – Victoria, Seychelles – On this International Nurses Day, Lalyans Nouvo Sesel pays heartfelt tribute to the tireless and selfless nurses of Seychelles – the silent heroes who shoulder the immense responsibility of our nation’s health care, working around the clock to protect and care for our people.

“Our nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system,” said a spokesperson for Lalyans Nouvo Sesel. “They deserve more than words of thanks – they deserve action, investment, and real respect.”

While public praise flows freely each year, the daily realities of Seychelles’ nurses often remain unchanged. Many continue to work in under-resourced hospitals, face poor working conditions, low salaries, and a lack of opportunities for professional advancement. Lalyans Nouvo Sesel believes this contradiction must end.

The party is calling for urgent and concrete reforms, including:

• Proper recognition of nursing as a critical and highly skilled profession
• Better salaries that reflect the sacrifices and service nurses provide
• Safer and cleaner workplaces, particularly in hospitals and clinics
• Adequate staffing and medical supplies to reduce burnout and improve patient care
• Increased investment in training, education, and career development for nurses

“Empowering our nurses is not just the right thing to do – it’s essential to building a healthier and more resilient Seychelles,” the spokesperson continued. “When our nurses thrive, our nation thrives.”

Lalyans Nouvo Sesel is also urging the government to re-evaluate its national spending priorities. “It is time to put healthcare before stadium toilets. Lives must come before luxuries.”
