Celebrating Ismaila Isah – A Visionary Media Leader

Among this year’s outstanding nominees is Ismaila Isah, the Special Adviser on Media to the Executive Governor of Kogi State. A highly respected communications expert, Mr. Isah brings over 15 years of cross-sector experience in journalism, advertising, public relations, brand management, and public policy communications.

He began his career in journalism with the Financial Standard Newspaper (2008–2009) before transitioning into strategic communications at SilverBullet Public Relations, part of the U.S.-based Young & Rubicam Brands, where he rose to the role of Account Director. His entrepreneurial drive led him to co-found Brand Research & Advertising, where he served as the pioneering Head of Strategy and Business Development. He later became General Manager/COO at TouchpointXM and later joined Bifocal Communications, Abuja, as General Manager.

Between 2014 and 2016, he held his first official role in the Kogi State Government, a period that deepened his engagement with policy-driven communications. In 2018, Isah embraced academia as a lecturer at Baze University, Abuja, blending theory with real-world insights while maintaining his consulting practice.

A celebrated thought leader, he won the Golden Eagle Award for Outstanding Talent in Public Relations (2010). He is a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), Africa Council for Communication Education (ACCE), and Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).

Mr. Isah has successfully led communications projects for both public and private sector giants, including Chevron, Airtel, DHL, LG Electronics, Texaco/MRS Oil, Reckitt Benckiser, and government bodies such as INEC, UBEC, and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. Notably, in 2009, he contributed to a project with the U.S. Department of Printing and Engraving on the redesign of the 100 Dollar Bill.

A media innovator, he co-founded LugardTV, a digital media platform based at the Government House Media Centre in Lokoja, and has shaped media strategies for WE FM Abuja, Rapid TV, and Blueprint TV.

Ismaila Isah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Bayero University Kano, a Master’s in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, and is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Media Arts at the University of Abuja. He is also an alumnus of the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos.
