Any Hope For The Ghanaian Youth?

Any Hope For The Ghanaian Youth?

The popular saying that, 'Once there's life, there's hope', can best be applied to the Ghanaian youth of today. Why?, you may want to ask! Well, this is because of the numerous challenges with which the Ghanaian youth is faced, day-to-day. These challenges range from unfavourable economic policies to social and political insecurity.

The successful 'fix the country' social media campaign by the youth that took the country by storm and metamorphosed into a full-blown national non-partisan demonstration across the country, only goes to amplify these challenges being faced with the Ghanaian youth and which the youth struggles with, today.

Politically, the so-called democracy we practise today, leaves much to be desired. Almost all the registered political parties in Ghana today, have their hierarchy flooded with old men and women who are bent on manipulating the system to ensure that they either remain in power or in positions of authority, thereby displacing the up and coming young ones, who hope to replace them, or again hand over power to their own known relatives, Loyalists and affiliates, leaving the youth with no option than to give up and throw their hands up in despair thereby, succumbing to fate.

Economically speaking, only a handful of the youth is empowered to be economically independent. Once they graduate from institutions of learning and armed with the requisite skills and expertise to do or engage themselves in some form of self-employment or business, the 'start-up capital' is virtually, unavailable. It's either you are connected to a 'political godfather' to support you or struggle to meet the financial institution's security or collateral, which are in most cases, hard to meet.

Socially, there is more room for improvement. The Ghanaian youth must be mindful of the fact that as leaders of tomorrow, they are expected to demonstrate such leadership qualities as respect for elders, honesty to their fellow citizens and above all, patriotism and love for country.

But, have all of the above been the case? Well, your guess is just as good as mine!

Not too long ago, two young men were arrested and charged to court for murder with the intention to use their victim and friend for 'money rituals'. It's a shame! This must not be the case for the Ghanaian youth.

Finally, the hope of the Ghanaian youth today for the future, lies in the hands of our political and economy leaders of today, whose responsibility and obligation it is to implement favourable economic, political and social policies for the Ghanaian youth of today, to strive and be hopeful with great expectation for a better tomorrow and the future ahead.
