The African Union and African Tourism Board, hosted a strategic session at the AU headquarter in Addis Ababa.

The African Union with its partner, the African tourism Board, hosted a strategic session at its headquarters in Addis Ababa recently with the strategic action plan to foster greater cooperation and collaboration between the parties and establishing adequate working arrangements to successfully implement and actionise the MOU signed.

The goal of The African Union still stands "As a pillar of continental pinnacle, coordination of policies, strategies and activities in promoting and boosting the intra Africa trade area with a Pan African vision of integrating the 54 member states as a booster to the intra African trade".

While that of the African Tourism Board is to promote intra Africa tourism and investment for both leisure and business trade into the tourism sector and reshaping Africa’s narrative and advancing eco-tourism.

The African Union at the event was represented by His Excellency Mr. Mustapha Ouabbas, the Senior Policy Officer for Trade and Industry, Department of Infrastructure and Energy and Tourism, while the ATB was represented by the Executive Chairman, Dr. Cuthbert Ncube and the Secretary General, Hiwotie Anberbir Assefa.

The Parties reaffirmed their collaboration in accordance with the African Tourism Strategic Framework (ATSF) Vision, in areas of boosting the African Tourism Industry, fostering Tourism Sustainability and promoting an inclusive green growth, Intra African Trade and Investment promotion and capacity building in the areas of Tourism industry. It also aims at promoting products focused on attracting the African market to increase inter and intra African travel, exchange of experiences and information on matters and objectives of common interest.

Mr. Mustapha emphasized the need to establish a task force to oversee the implementation of the action plan for sustaining, for coordinating activities, monitoring progresses, and discussing updates and identifying key areas and trends for improvement and growth within a very short space of time.


Dr. Cuthbert Ncube, in his conclusion, unveiled the undertaking by African tourism board on significant projects aimed at promoting newly developed destinations in member states. The initiative aims to showcase diverse tourism offerings, attract investment, and foster collaboration among all stakeholders, as it recognises tourism’s potential as a catalyst for economic growth and development in Africa.
