The summit brought together distinguished African monarchs, traditional leaders, government representatives, global health experts, development partners, and policymakers to discuss practical strategies for improving maternal and child health outcomes while accelerating efforts to eliminate preventable infectious diseases across the African continent.
Recognizing the importance of collaboration and continental unity, HRH Dr. Mwanta Ishima Sanken'i VI also extended an invitation to the Clevenard South Africa Director, Dr. Levy Mokgale Motebejane, to participate in this landmark gathering, further strengthening Clevenard's commitment to advancing sustainable development, health awareness, and community empowerment throughout Africa.
The summit was officially opened by His Majesty Elong Kotto Pierre Patrick, President of the Pan-African Council of Traditional and Customary Authorities (PACTCA), alongside Professor Denis Zofou, Technical Advisor to PACTCA. Discussions focused on the critical role that African traditional and customary leaders can play in improving healthcare delivery, building community trust, combating misinformation, promoting immunization, supporting maternal healthcare, and strengthening responses to infectious diseases.
Participants emphasized that traditional leadership remains one of Africa's most trusted and influential institutions, capable of driving positive behavioural change and supporting public health initiatives at the grassroots level. The summit highlighted the need to harness this influence to improve healthcare access and outcomes, particularly for women and children in rural and underserved communities.
Professor Denis Zofou underscored the importance of developing African-led health solutions rooted in local cultures, traditions, and governance structures. He further advocated for increased capacity-building programs for traditional leaders, the adoption of the One Health approach, evidence-based research initiatives, and the establishment of a permanent continental platform of Royal and Traditional Health Champions.
Speaking after the summit, HRH Dr. Mwanta Ishima Sanken'i VI praised the gathering as a transformative initiative that recognizes the powerful role of traditional authorities in shaping healthier communities.
