"Prophets are not respected in their own territories" as the saying. This adage is a good description to what is happening in Nigeria and Africa in general. We are not used to appreciating our heritage in this part of the world until it gets to the other side.
All languages are the same, especially those with autography which Yoruba language is one of them. We are loosing more to the Western World as a result of our attitude towards African heritage.
As Yoruba language is being accepted by the Western World, if we are not very careful, the Whites will come back to our land to teach our children Yoruba Language
The uniqueness of Yoruba language has made it very difficult to meddle or be diluted with other languages.
Unknowingly, It has always been a universal language.
Yes, our forceful co- existence with other tribes by the colonial masters is a great impediment on the acceptance and progress of Yoruba language as a universal language.
It is very unfortunate that creole language, that is, an artificial language (man made) is more accepted at the international stage like UNO than Yoruba language.
Suffice to say it that, creole language is a diluted language. It is a mixture of French language and some African languages.
It is pertinent to say that, Yoruba language is one of the earliest original languages that was spoken in the world. To lend credence to this fact, is that, the origin of "Ifá Olókun Asọ̀rọ̀dayọ̀" predated the history of early man.
The great Professor of mathematics, Chike Obi in a conference with his fellow Ibo men and women was asked which is the best language in Nigeria. He posited by saying that Yorùbá language is the greatest of all languages in modern history. His tribe men were astonished and felt a little bit slighted by that position.
He now went ahead to give the rationale behind his reasons. Without prejudice, Yoruba language is the only profound language that has greeting for all human activities in modern history. Any activities or non activities you engage yourself with has a greeting. If you are sleeping, Yoruba will say, "Ẹ kú ojú orun" (good that you are resting your eyes). If you are just sitting down and you are not doing anything, Yoruba will say "Ẹ kú ìjòkó o o"(good that you are sitting down to relax).
Also, if you are engaging in any activities, Yoruba will say "Ẹ kú iṣẹ́ o, ṣé àlàáfíà ni" (good that you are working and hope you are in good health).
According to Professor Chike Obi, there is nothing you do in this world that does not come with greeting and words of solidarty by Yoruba people.
Yes, Yorùbá is such a unique and amazing tribe in the history of mankind.
It has been proven by many scholars of Yoruba language that 'ifa' that we also anglicize as oracle is the building blocks of computer which operation is based in binary forms
In summary, we truly do not know the great value of Yoruba language and the earlier our leaders endeavor to promote our language the better for the unborn generation to preserve our unique identity as the pride of the black race.
