About Kgosi Mosadi Seboko
Born on 7 June 1950 in Ramotswa, Botswana, Kgosi Mosadi Seboko is the Paramount Chief (Kgosikgolo) of the Balete people, a position she has held since 2002. She is widely recognised as the first female Paramount Chief in Botswana’s history, breaking longstanding gender barriers within traditional leadership systems.
Her ascension marked a historic turning point in Botswana’s cultural landscape, challenging patriarchal norms that historically excluded women from leadership roles in the kgotla (traditional assembly). Her leadership embodies the principle that constitutional equality and cultural heritage can coexist in advancing inclusive governance.
In addition to her traditional leadership role, Kgosi Seboko has served as Chairperson of the Ntlo ya Dikgosi (House of Chiefs) and has contributed to continental governance as Deputy Chairperson of the Southern Caucus of the Pan-African Parliament, strengthening Botswana’s voice in African legislative and policy dialogue.
Her leadership continues to stand as a powerful symbol of dignity, resilience, and transformation within African traditional systems.
