Clevenard to Honour Lizette Chirrime at the 2026 Clevenard Open Project & Global Awards in Alicante, Spain

Alicante, Spain — Clevenard SL is proud to announce that internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Lizette Chirrime will be formally honoured with a prestigious Honorary Award at the Clevenard Open Project 2026 (5th Edition) and Clevenard Global Awards – 3rd Edition, taking place from 27–30 August 2026 at the Palacio de Congresos Alicante.

The honour recognizes her outstanding contribution to contemporary African art, textile innovation, cultural identity, and healing-driven artistic expression that has gained international recognition across exhibitions, residencies, and global art platforms.

Honorary Award Presentation

The official award ceremony will take place on Day 4 – Sunday, 30 August 2026, during the Clevenard Global Awards – 3rd Edition, the flagship celebration of the Clevenard Open Project. The evening will also feature the International Fashion Runway, bringing together global designers, cultural icons, and creative leaders.

The awards celebrate individuals whose work transcends borders and contributes meaningfully to culture, development, and global dialogue.

Keynote Address – Day 3 (29 August 2026)

In addition to receiving the honorary distinction, Lizette Chirrime will deliver a keynote address on Day 3 – Global Tourism & International Film Celebration, under the theme:

“Weaving Identity: Textiles, Memory, and the Healing Power of Contemporary African Art”

Her address will explore the intersection of art, identity, memory, and transformation through textile-based storytelling and creative expression.

About Lizette Chirrime

Born in 1973 in Maputo, Mozambique, Lizette Chirrime grew up with a deep creative instinct, exploring painting and sewing as a personal practice without formal artistic training. Her artistic journey began to gain international recognition after her first solo exhibition invitation in Mozambique in 2004, followed by a residency at Greatmore Studios in Cape Town in 2005.

Chirrime is widely recognized for her large-scale textile-based works on canvas, blending abstract forms with collaged African prints such as tshwe-tshwe, creating visually powerful compositions that explore femininity, resilience, identity, and emotional healing.

Her practice is deeply autobiographical and therapeutic. Through layered fabrics and stitched forms, she reconstructs narratives of personal transformation, often describing her work as a process of “re-stitching” herself after trauma. Her artworks evoke movement, spirit, and celebration—often portraying liberated feminine forms that reflect joy, memory, and survival.

Beyond canvas work, she also engages in installations, performance art, fashion design, and handcrafted wooden jewelry inspired by her heritage and lived experience. Her multidisciplinary approach positions her as a significant voice in contemporary African creative expression.

Her work has been exhibited internationally, including notable presentations and collaborations across Europe and Africa, and she has been recognized as a finalist for major contemporary African art awards.
