Clevenard to Honour Professor Jeleel Olasunkanmi Ojuade at the 2026 Clevenard Open Project & Global Awards in Alicante, Spain

Alicante, Spain — Clevenard SL is proud to announce that Professor Jeleel Olasunkanmi Ojuade, an internationally celebrated scholar, cultural ambassador, and one of Africa’s most influential voices in Performance and Dance Studies, will be honoured at the 2026 Clevenard Open Project & Global Awards, taking place from 27–30 August 2026 at the renowned Palacio de Congresos de Alicante.

Professor Ojuade will also deliver a keynote speech on Day 3 (29 August 2026) during the Global Tourism & International Film Celebration. His keynote topic is:

“Cultural Performance as Global Tourism Capital: Reimagining African Dance, Film, and Heritage for a Connected World”

This thought-provoking presentation will explore how African performance traditions—particularly dance, music, and storytelling—continue to shape global tourism, inspire film industries, and strengthen international cultural exchange.

A Lifetime Dedicated to Culture, Scholarship & Global Impact

Professor Jeleel Olasunkanmi Ojuade is a Professor of Performance and Cultural Studies with deep specialization in Dance Studies and Practice. He holds a Ph.D. in Performance Studies (Dance) from the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan, Nigeria; an LL.B (Hons) in Common Law; an LL.M in Copyright Law; and an MBA from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. A multifaceted academic and cultural leader, he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2009.

Beginning his dance journey at age four with his father’s troupe, Ojuade and His Dance Group, Professor Ojuade has sustained more than four decades of exceptional artistic contribution. He represented Nigeria globally as the youngest member of the Nigerian troupe of the National Theatre of Nigeria at the XII Commonwealth Games and Warana Festival in Brisbane, Australia (1982), and during a performance tour in South Korea (1983).

His international academic engagements span prestigious institutions including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston University, and Harvard University, where he lectured on Music and Dance in Africa. He has presented widely at global conferences and published extensively on Yoruba Bàtá and Dùndún traditions.

Professor Ojuade has held significant leadership roles, including President of the Association of Dance Scholars and Practitioners of Nigeria (ADPSON), Assistant Director at the Centre for International Education (CIE), and Director of the Advancement Centre at the University of Ilorin. He also facilitated major institutional partnerships and was honoured with an ambassadorial award in 2025 for his contributions to academic development.

Currently, he serves as an Executive Advisory Board Member of the Pan Africa Tourism Board and is a member of the National Academy of Letters in Nigeria. He also holds distinguished traditional titles, including Aaree Alase of Ifetado, Osun State.

Professor Ojuade will be formally honoured on Day 4 — Sunday, 30 August 2026, during the Clevenard Global Awards – 3rd Edition, held alongside the International Fashion Runway. The ceremony recognizes world-class leaders whose influence transcends borders, disciplines, and generations.
