Alfred Harun Thullah is a pioneering Sierra Leonean filmmaker, playwright, and cultural leader whose career has played a defining role in shaping the Northern and North-Eastern film landscape. Recognized for his creativity, vision, and industry leadership, Thullah has earned a reputation as a transformative force, inspiring generations of storytellers and elevating community-based cinema across the country.

Thullah began his cinematic journey in 2005 in the East End of Freetown, where he wrote and directed Indomitable Love, the first full-length movie produced in the area. This groundbreaking production marked the beginning of a creative revolution, demonstrating the power of storytelling rooted in local culture and community experiences. In 2006, he followed up with Bitterness of Love, further establishing his voice as a bold and authentic storyteller dedicated to portraying Sierra Leonean life with nuance and depth.

In 2008, Thullah relocated to Makeni to pursue tertiary education in Performing Arts—encompassing Music, Drama, and Dance at Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST). His academic training refined his artistic discipline and deepened his understanding of performance, cinematic storytelling, and production. Two years later, he represented Sierra Leone at an international congress organized by Arts; A Resource for Reconciliation Over the World (now INDRA) in Plymouth, England, where he won Best Performer in a One-Man Show for his poem My Dream Has Come True, which was later showcased at the Desmond Tutu Centre at Marjon University, gaining international recognition for his artistic excellence.

Upon returning home, Thullah continued his trailblazing work, producing Zooria (2010), the first full-length film in Makeni, followed by Angel of Justice (2011), which strengthened Makeni’s status in Sierra Leone’s evolving film industry. Over the years, his prolific filmography has expanded to include titles such as Gift of Love (2012), Lion Mountain (2013), Gbom Sweh (2018), Ginamusa (2020), War in Heaven (2022), Konthofili (2022), Royal Legacy (2023), and upcoming releases Throne of Love (2026), Shadows of Rivalry (2026), and MORRKA (The Snitch) (2026).

Thullah’s leadership extends beyond filmmaking. As former Regional Coordinator and current National Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Film Council, he plays a strategic role in policy direction, filmmaker empowerment, and the professionalization of the national film sector. His numerous awards for Best Writer and Best Director underscore his storytelling mastery, cultural representation, and contributions to Sierra Leonean cinema.

Today, Alfred Harun Thullah remains a visionary creative and industry advocate, whose journey from the streets of East Freetown to international stages continues to inspire emerging filmmakers. Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB), he embodies the fusion of artistic excellence, cultural leadership, and forward-thinking ambition—cementing his legacy as a true pillar of Sierra Leonean cinema.
