Ayan De First – Mr. Culture Nominated for the Clevenard Media Award 2025 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain
  • Category: Global Cultural Leadership & Arts Promotion

Palma de Mallorca, Spain — The world of arts and culture will gather on the beautiful Mediterranean shores this November as the Clevenard Media Award 2025 makes its debut in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. The prestigious event will celebrate extraordinary individuals whose work in entertainment, entrepreneurship, innovation, culture, and humanitarian service has impacted societies across continents.

This global awards ceremony will bring together visionaries, creatives, policymakers, NGOs, and business leaders to honor those whose passion and commitment have helped shape a more inclusive and inspired world.

Among the distinguished honorees this year is Ayan De First – Mr. Culture, a globally respected artist, performer, and cultural ambassador, whose lifelong mission has been to elevate African heritage on the world stage. His nomination in the Global Cultural Leadership & Arts Promotion category recognizes a lifetime dedicated to creative excellence, cultural education, and the preservation of African identity through music and performance.

A Living Legend of African Culture

Known globally as Mr. Culture, Ayan De First is a multi-talented, multi-award-winning artist whose influence spans performance, visual arts, education, and media. A native of Nigeria and a proud cultural custodian, he studied Tourism and Hospitality Management at Coventry University in the United Kingdom — an academic foundation that complements his deep-rooted artistry.

His mastery of African drumming, rhythm, and storytelling was passed down through generations — from his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father. These ancestral influences shaped him into one of the most powerful cultural voices of his generation.

Since moving to the UK, Ayan De First has worked with over 500 schools, private and public, introducing thousands of students to African history, language, and rhythm through educational drumming workshops. His work goes beyond entertainment — it builds cultural bridges, fosters unity, and instills pride in African heritage among both Africans and non-Africans.

“Culture is the heartbeat of a people,” Ayan often says. “If you lose your culture, you lose your identity.”

His daily mission is simple yet profound: to ensure that African culture is celebrated, respected, and passed on to future generations.

From Underground Busker to Royal Performer

Ayan De First’s journey in the United Kingdom began humbly. Two years after his arrival, while performing as a busker in a London Underground station, he was removed by transport officials. What could have been a setback became a breakthrough.

Shortly after, his talent caught the attention of Harriet Harman MP, who invited him to perform at a Labour Party campaign event. That single opportunity launched his career in the UK and opened doors to countless prestigious stages.

Since then, Ayan has performed for global icons including Sir Richard Branson, the Lord Mayor of London, Jeremy Corbyn, and Madonna, as well as former Nigerian Presidents Abdulsalami Abubakar and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

He has had the rare honor of performing for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family, and has appeared before His Majesty King Charles III on three separate occasions.

His magnetic performances have been featured on BBC, ITV, Sky News, Channel 4, and CNN, most notably appearing on the hit Channel 4 program “Come Dine With Me.”

His name and story have graced the pages of nearly every major British national newspaper — a testament to his perseverance, excellence, and the universal power of cultural art.

Cultural Advocate, Visual Artist & CEO

Ayan De First is not only a performer but also a visionary leader and cultural entrepreneur. As the CEO of the African Cultural Showcase and founder of the Annual African Cultural Celebration Night UK, he provides platforms for African creatives, dancers, and musicians to share their craft with international audiences.

He has exhibited his vibrant visual art pieces in major European cities, earning recognition for his ability to translate African rhythm and history into captivating visuals.

He was also awarded the British Historical Medal and honored as a Freeman of the City of London, a recognition reserved for individuals who have made significant cultural and social contributions to British society.

Ayan’s musical legacy includes contributions to iconic Nigerian albums such as:

  • Ijo Ya by Weird MC
  • Mi O Mon Poju Ogun Laye by Micho Ade
  • Pasero Mi by Jide Chord

He has also shared stages with Nigerian music legends like King Sunny Adé, Ebenezer Obey, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, Queen Salawa Abeni, Adewale Ayuba, and Yinka Ayefele — blending traditional artistry with modern performance.

Preserving Heritage Through Generations

Ayan’s work is deeply rooted in education, mentorship, and community development. Through his cultural troupe, he continues to perform at major festivals, international conferences, and corporate events, showcasing the richness of African drumming and dance.

He played a major role during the Benin Bronze Restitution Ceremony at Cambridge University, marking the symbolic return of African artifacts after 125 years in exile — a historic event that honored the resilience of African heritage.

Despite surviving six major and three minor car accidents, Ayan De First remains unstoppable. His story embodies resilience, faith, and destiny.

Today, he continues to inspire thousands as a stage actor, radio presenter, educator, and cultural ambassador — living proof that passion, faith, and purpose can turn obstacles into triumphs.

Happily married and blessed with children, Ayan De First stands as a proud symbol of family, legacy, and leadership in cultural promotion.
