For the very first time, the vibrant and culturally rich city of Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria, will host the prestigious Clevenard Media Award 2025 — a landmark event dedicated to recognising and elevating excellence across Africa’s entertainment, creative, entrepreneurial, leadership, and social impact sectors.

From music, film, comedy, dance, fashion, entrepreneurship, community development, public service, and digital innovation, this extraordinary celebration aims to spotlight the individuals, organizations, and leaders redefining African excellence and culture.

This year, the Clevenard Media Award proudly honours High Chief Abovi Hope Erute with the Outstanding Leadership and Cultural Advancement Award for his exemplary contributions to community development, cultural preservation, and visionary leadership.

High Chief Abovi Hope Erute is a distinguished educator, statesman, and cultural custodian whose career has spanned education, politics, community service, and traditional leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Port Harcourt and began his professional journey as a teacher and counselor under the Delta State Teaching Service Commission, where he served multiple schools across the state.

In 1996, Chief Erute transitioned to community service, bringing dedication, strategic insight, and cultural vision to every role he assumed. He served as Personal Assistant to His Royal Majesty Eruohwo II, the Ovie of Uvwie, and subsequently became Assistant Secretary to the Regency Council following the monarch’s passing.

Chief Erute has held multiple key positions in public service and political leadership, including:

  • Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of State for Education
  • Secretary, PDP Delta State Elders, Leaders, and Stakeholders’ Forum under the late Chief Senator E.K. Clark
  • Member, Board of Trustees, E.K. Clark Solidarity Forum for Good Governance
  • Deputy Director, Directorate of Cultural Engagement, Delta State PDP Campaign Council (2023 Elections)

A respected figure in the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), he has actively contributed to numerous committees, promoting unity, governance, and development within the Uvwie community. Chief Erute holds esteemed traditional titles, including Ovieremo of Uvwie Kingdom and Esirierha of Eche R’Alegbo, the senior-most chief responsible for offering prayers and guidance at council meetings.

Currently serving as President General of the Uvwie General Improvement Union (U.G.I.U.), Chief Erute has transformed the organization into the apex socio-cultural body representing Uvwie people worldwide. Under his leadership:

  • The Uvwie Day Fiesta has evolved into a major cultural festival, attracting participants from across Nigeria and the diaspora, fostering integration among Uvwie, Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa communities.
  • The “Uvwie Dialect Must Not Die” initiative has successfully introduced the Uvwie language into local schools, preserving linguistic heritage for future generations.
  • The traditional Juri (Igbe R’Anama) Dance Troupe has been revived and sponsored, ensuring the continuation of a centuries-old cultural performance.

Chief Erute is also a member of the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council, actively contributing to peace and security initiatives across the state. His collaborative approach with youth groups, law enforcement, and community organizations has created an environment conducive to socio-economic development, infrastructural growth, and cultural harmony.

Through decades of service, High Chief Abovi Hope Erute has become a beacon of visionary leadership, cultural advocacy, and community empowerment, earning respect locally, nationally, and internationally. His efforts exemplify how strong leadership, tradition, and community engagement can drive sustainable development and unity.
