From music, film, comedy, dance, and fashion to entrepreneurship, community development, public service, and digital innovation, this grand celebration seeks to spotlight the individuals, organizations, and leaders who are redefining African excellence and culture.

This year’s edition proudly celebrates Mrs. Joan Noruwa-Ikemefuna, who will be recognized with the Award for Outstanding Leadership and Community Empowerment for her unwavering commitment to education, women’s advancement, and community development.

Born in London to the family of Late Engineer Samuel Noruwa and Mrs. Ruth Noruwa, Mrs. Joan Noruwa-Ikemefuna stands as a shining example of resilience, purpose, and leadership. As the eldest of six children, she has always demonstrated excellence and compassion — qualities that continue to define her life’s journey.

After completing her primary and secondary education at Agbado Primary School and Idia College, Benin City, Joan pursued higher education at Bendel State University (now Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma), where she studied Biological Sciences (1985–1989) and served as Assistant President of her departmental association.

Her quest for knowledge and global impact took her to the United Kingdom, where she earned her Postgraduate Degree in Business Administration from Westminster University, London.

Currently, she serves as Deputy Service Manager in one of the most reputable organizations under the UK National Health Service (NHS) — a role that reflects her passion for service, professionalism, and excellence.

Leadership and Community Impact

Mrs. Noruwa-Ikemefuna has dedicated her life to uplifting others through education, mentorship, and faith-based initiatives. As President of Idia College Old Girls Association (ICOGA) Europe, she has organized numerous empowerment seminars and motivational programs for alumni, including a landmark fundraising gala in 2024, which brought together influential figures from various institutions to support educational initiatives in Nigeria.

In 2023, she served as Chairperson for ICOGA***, leading the celebration of Idia College’s 50th anniversary — a monumental event that inspired both alumni and current students to embrace academic excellence, leadership, and service. Her tenure as Vice President and Secretary General of ICOGA Europe (for nine years) further demonstrates her deep commitment to preserving the legacy of women’s education and empowerment.

Beyond her educational initiatives, Mrs. Noruwa-Ikemefuna is a pillar of faith and compassion. She serves as Secretary and Intercessory Ministry Leader at The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Fulham Branch, UK, and coordinates both the Young Adults Fellowship and the International Women Prayer Conference (IWPC) UK, where she has been instrumental in transforming lives through spiritual mentorship for over a decade.

A devoted wife and mother of three, Joan balances her professional and community roles with grace. Her hobbies — swimming, dancing, music, travel, and building meaningful relationships — reflect her joyful and vibrant spirit.

Her story is one of faith, excellence, and purpose-driven leadership, inspiring countless individuals across continents.
