One of this year’s distinguished nominees is H.E. Dr. Morie Komba Manyeh, a Sierra Leonean diplomat, academic, and statesman, who currently serves as the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

Distinguished Career in Diplomacy, Governance & Academia

Dr. Manyeh assumed his role as High Commissioner on 15 October 2019, with accreditation to Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, and Norway. He has since represented Sierra Leone on numerous global platforms, championing inclusive development, diplomatic cooperation, and sustainable policy.

He was elected Chairman of the Commonwealth Foundation Grants Committee, overseeing programs that advance transparency, accountability, and citizen participation across member states. His leadership has also been recognized at key forums such as the Oxford Africa Conference and the Chatham House Policy Roundtable on Africa’s Energy Transition, where he highlighted Sierra Leone’s role in driving inclusive growth and sustainable solutions.

Before his diplomatic appointment, Dr. Manyeh served as Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources in Sierra Leone, a strategic role where he oversaw governance of the country’s natural resources.

An academic by training, he has over 30 years of experience in teaching and research in language, education, and the humanities. A PhD graduate from the University of Leeds (UK), he previously served as Senior Lecturer, Head of the Department of Language Education at Njala University, and visiting Professor at the University of Alberta (Canada). His scholarly and professional work has influenced generations of students and policymakers alike.

  • Public Orator & Senior Lecturer – Njala University, contributing to higher education reform and academic leadership.
  • National Political Leadership – Candidate for the Flag Bearer position (2010/2011) and Chairman/Leader of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in 2017.
  • Civil Service & Humanitarian Leadership – Chairing the Kono District Emergency Task Force during Sierra Leone’s civil war, advocating for peace, education, and national reconstruction.
