We are proud to announce that Mr. Slumber Tsogwane, former Vice President of the Republic of Botswana, has been officially nominated for the Clevenard Media Award 2025 in the category of: Lifetime Achievement in Public Service & Democratic Leadership

Mr. Tsogwane is a statesman of remarkable distinction, having served the people of Botswana and the wider African community with honor, dedication, and vision.

From 1999 to 2024, he served as the Member of Parliament for Boteti West constituency, holding the trust of his people for over two decades. In Parliament, he was not only Leader of the House but also a respected Chairperson of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and an active member of the Ntlo Ya Dikgosi.

On 4 April 2018, he was appointed as the 9th Vice President of the Republic of Botswana, a position he held with distinction until 1 November 2024, making him one of the longest-serving Vice Presidents in Botswana’s history. During his tenure, he chaired transformative bodies such as the Rural Development Council, dedicated to uplifting rural communities, and the National AIDS and Health Promotion Council (NAHP), which guided national strategy on HIV/AIDS and health policy. As Chairperson of the National Planning Commission, he provided strong leadership in reforms, national development planning, and strategic implementation under the Office of the President.

Before ascending to the Vice Presidency, Mr. Tsogwane had already built an illustrious career in governance. He served as Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (2014–2018), as well as Assistant Minister of Finance and Development Planning (2004–2009). His parliamentary journey included leadership roles such as Chairperson of committees on HIV/AIDS, Health, and Labour.

Beyond government, Mr. Tsogwane has also represented Botswana in international Election Observer Missions across the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mauritius, Namibia, and Zimbabwe — a testament to his commitment to democratic values and fair governance.

Educated at the University of Botswana, he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities and a Master’s Degree in Development Studies. His professional background began in education, where he served as a teacher and Deputy Head in the 1990s, inspiring generations of young Batswana.

A man of many passions, Mr. Tsogwane is also a dedicated farmer, and in his personal time, he enjoys football, jogging, gym, and game viewing — reflecting his deep connection to both people and nature.

His career stands as a shining example of leadership, resilience, and vision. His nomination for the Clevenard Media Award 2025 – Lifetime Achievement in Public Service & Democratic Leadership honors not only his decades of service but also his enduring impact on Botswana, Africa, and the world.
