Clevenard is proud to announce the nomination of Mrs. Neo Jane Masisi, affectionately known as Mma Atsile, for the 2025 Clevenard Media Award in the category of Women’s Empowerment & Global Social Development Leadership. A Chartered Accountant, humanitarian, and internationally respected advocate, Mrs. Masisi has dedicated her life to advancing women’s rights, youth empowerment, health, and social development across Africa and beyond.

Born on 15 November 1971 in Francistown, Botswana, she rose from humble beginnings as the eldest of six children to pursue excellence in education and service. She trained at Debswana Diamond Company’s Accountancy Training Centre, earned her MBA from De Montfort University (UK), and later built a distinguished career with the United Nations (2004–2018), where she served in New York, Addis Ababa, the Central African Republic, and on the Umoja project.

In 2018, when her husband, H.E. Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, assumed office as President of Botswana, Mrs. Masisi embraced the role of First Lady (2018–2024) with vision and commitment. She championed national and international initiatives in health, education, and social justice, focusing particularly on gender-based violence, HIV/AIDS prevention, youth empowerment, and women’s rights.

Global Advocacy & Recognition

• UNAIDS Special Ambassador (2018) & Champion (2023): Advocated for adolescent girls and young women through the Education Plus Initiative.
• Merck Foundation “More Than a Mother” Campaign Ambassador (2024): Promoted infertility awareness, healthcare training, girl-child education, and ending GBV.
• OAFLAD Member: Collaborated with African First Ladies to drive social and health development initiatives.
• Ambassador of the Cervical Cancer Campaign (2023–2024): Raised awareness to increase early prevention and screenings.
• International Council of Global HOPE Member: Supporting pediatric cancer and blood disorder care in Africa.

Her leadership directly impacted communities — securing specialized scholarships for 46 Botswana doctors, expanding educational opportunities for adolescent girls, and advancing conversations on reproductive health, gender equality, and HIV/AIDS prevention across Africa.

Beyond her official roles, Mrs. Masisi is a devoted wife to President Mokgweetsi Masisi and mother to their daughter, Atsile. Her enduring legacy is one of resilience, dignity, and purposeful service, inspiring women, youth, and leaders to believe in the power of education and empowerment.
