With a career spanning more than four decades, Dr. St. Ange has been a pioneering force in advancing tourism development, cultural diplomacy, and environmental sustainability across the Indian Ocean region and beyond. He is widely credited with elevating Seychelles as a world-class destination while fostering regional unity through the creation and leadership of the Vanilla Islands initiative—a collaboration of island nations promoting shared tourism, culture, and economic development.

Currently, Dr. St. Ange is a Presidential Candidate for the Republic of Seychelles in 2025, running under the Nouvo Sesel movement, advocating for innovation, sustainable growth, and enhanced global partnerships. Alongside his political pursuits, he remains a strategic advisor to multiple international organizations committed to sustainable tourism and climate action, including SUNx Global (UK), the African Federation of Associations of Sustainable Tourism (AFASU, Egypt), and the Sayari Dunia Sustainable Tourism Foundation (Nigeria).

Dr. St. Ange’s work transcends traditional tourism promotion. His leadership embodies the intersection of cultural diplomacy, environmental stewardship, and socio-economic empowerment. His notable achievements include:

Personal Biography

Born on October 24, 1954, on the island of La Digue in Seychelles, Dr. Alain St. Ange grew up on his family’s agricultural estate, which specialized in vanilla and coconut plantations. His early life connected him deeply to the land and culture of Seychelles. After completing his education at Seychelles College, he pursued further studies in Hotel Management in Germany and Tourism Administration in France.

He gained extensive experience managing key hospitality properties across Seychelles, the Channel Islands, and Australia before transitioning into public service. His political career began early, with his election to the Seychelles People’s Assembly in 1979. He later served in the National Assembly and was appointed as Director of Marketing and then CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board before becoming Minister of Tourism and Culture.

Dr. St. Ange has authored several publications on Seychelles’ history, politics, and tourism and remains a prolific speaker and advocate for sustainable development and cultural preservation.
