About Dr Abbey Akinoshun

Dr Abbey Akinoshun is a trailblazer in advocacy and employment and regulatory law, with over 25 years of experience representing nurses, midwives, and healthcare professionals in the UK. His inspiring journey began as a cleaner, where he successfully defended himself and his colleagues in a workplace case, sparking a lifelong mission to fight injustice and racial discrimination.

He went on to establish VEASEM (Voluntary Employment Advisory Services for Ethnic Minorities), a self-funded initiative offering free legal support to ethnic minority professionals. His dedication has empowered hundreds to challenge unfair practices and claim their rights with dignity.

Over the years, Dr Akinoshun has received numerous accolades, including the “Our Heroes Community Champion Award” by South London Press, the Metropolitan Police Award, and the BEFFTA Special Award for his societal contributions. He was also honored with the Nigerian Centenary Awards UK and the EPRA Leadership and Entrepreneurial Award as Outstanding Charity Champion of the Year in 2018.

Dr Akinoshun holds a Master’s degree in Social Psychology from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria, and qualified as a Mental Health Nurse at King’s College London. He served over 14 years in NHS senior leadership roles and in 2006, made history as the first Black African nurse elected to the Nursing and Midwifery Council by over 200,000 nurses in England.

He is currently the CEO of Employment Rights Representation and Advisory Services (ERRAS), where he continues to represent healthcare professionals in disciplinary and regulatory hearings. Through the Dr. Abbey Akinoshun Foundation (DAAF), he extends his efforts to support the underprivileged.

Dr Akinoshun’s unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and excellence is reflected in the lives he has changed and the systems he continues to challenge. His nomination for the Clevenard Media Award 2025 stands as a tribute to his remarkable life and legacy.
