  • Stage Name: O.G Swizz
  • Nationality: South African
  • Genre: Hip-Hop
  • Nomination Category: Best Upcoming Hip-Hop Artist

O.G Swizz is a rapper, songwriter, composer, and performer who has built a name for himself through passion, perseverance, and raw talent. With a versatile sound that blends UK Drill, Afro Pop, African Trap, Conscious Rap, and R&B, he is one of the most promising artists to watch in the South African hip-hop scene.

Early Life & Musical Influences

Born on April 26, 2002, in Pretoria West, O.G Swizz grew up in Johannesburg, raised by his grandmother alongside his older sister, Lebohang Mofokeng. From a young age, he was surrounded by music, influenced by the sounds of Westlife, Michael Jackson, and other R&B and Pop artists. However, as he grew older, his love for hip-hop emerged, drawing inspiration from Kendrick Lamar, Tupac, and The Notorious B.I.G.

At eight years old, he moved to Rosettenville to live with his father and attended Townsview Primary School, where his love for music deepened. He joined the school choir, participated in athletics, and was part of the chess club. During this time, he became part of a group called Wolf Gang, formed by Amarela (Notorious Wolf). It was with this group that he recorded his first song, "Versace," featuring Psychotic Wolf.

Rise in Music & Education

As he advanced in his musical journey, O.G Swizz continued to refine his craft. He attended Orlando West High School in Soweto, where his passion for rap truly took off. At 15 years old (Grade 9), he started writing his own songs, downloading beats to practice and improve his lyrical skills.

During high school, he formed a strong musical partnership with fellow rapper Ndumiso Nkosi (Noxious The Grade). Together, they participated in school cyphers and rap battles, sharpening their freestyle abilities and stage presence.

Later, O.G Swizz transferred to Emadwaleni Secondary School, where he continued making an impact. He became well-known for dancing, rap battles, and his involvement in Columba Leadership, a group dedicated to making a difference in the school community.

After completing high school, he furthered his studies at South West Gauteng College (Dobsonville Campus), where he pursued Public Management (N4). However, his passion for music led him to make a bold decision—to fully focus on his music career.

Musical Career & Style

O.G Swizz is not just a rapper—he is a content creator, videographer, and photographer. His music is deeply influenced by his African roots, and he aims to use his voice as a tool for change. Inspired by Imboni Uzwi Lezwe Radebe, he has developed a unique style that incorporates themes of African spirituality and history into his music.
