Alain St.Ange Addresses Conference at Oxford University on Mahatma Gandhi's Birthday
Oxford University recently hosted a conference to celebrate the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, held at the esteemed Ashmolean Museum. The event drew dignitaries from around the globe, including the Lord Mayor of Oxford.
Among the distinguished speakers was Alain St.Ange, a Seychellois tourism consultant and recipient of the "Mahatma Gandhi Award." In his address to the packed conference room, St.Ange reflected on Gandhi’s philosophy of national pride through peace. He emphasized how this approach remains highly relevant in today's turbulent world, particularly in light of the ongoing conflicts such as the Ukraine-Russia war and the Israel-Gaza-Lebanon conflict, which continue to affect millions of lives both directly and indirectly.
St.Ange, a former Seychelles Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports, and Marine, now collaborates with several tourism boards and ministries across Africa and the ASEAN region. He is a renowned speaker on tourism, aviation, and sustainable tourism development. Notably, St.Ange was his country's candidate for the position of Secretary General of the UNWTO in 2017 and one of three candidates in the 2020 Seychelles presidential elections.
In his speech, St.Ange also highlighted Seychelles' diplomatic stance of being a "friend to all and enemy to none" since gaining independence from Britain in 1976. This neutral approach has helped the island nation avoid conflicts and maintain open doors for Seychellois travelers worldwide.
Later that day, St.Ange was scheduled to speak again at Oxford University, this time at the "Mental Health Global Summit," which focuses on fostering collaboration toward global solutions for mental health issues. "Today’s event at Oxford touches on the importance of stability, confidence, peace, and prosperity for all," St.Ange told the press earlier.
In his upcoming address, St.Ange will discuss how the tourism industry plays a crucial role in promoting peace, providing employment, and contributing to improved mental well-being for people around the world.
