Jamaica's Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, expressed his enthusiasm for recent developments in the Jamaican tourism industry as Catalonia Hotels & Resorts announced its acquisition of the Holiday Inn Resort, Montego Bay, from East Bay Management Company Limited, under the leadership of prominent Jamaican businessman Kevin Hendrickson.
Minister Bartlett hailed Catalonia's move, a respected international hospitality brand, as a robust vote of confidence in Jamaica's tourism sector and a potential catalyst for further investments.
"The acquisition of the Holiday Inn Resort by Catalonia Hotels & Resorts not only marks a seamless transition from a local leader to a global brand but also underscores Jamaica's enduring appeal as a destination for top-tier hospitality investments," stated Minister Bartlett.
He commended Mr. Hendrickson for his significant contributions to the tourism sector, stating, "His unwavering commitment to excellence and leadership within the Courtleigh Hospitality Group have undoubtedly propelled the property's success and, ultimately, its allure to esteemed brands like Catalonia."
In a joint press release announcing the acquisition, Mr. Hendrickson acknowledged the difficulty of the decision to sell the resort, expressing pride in entrusting it to a company of Catalonia's caliber. "We extend our gratitude to all our guests for their unwavering support over the past 16 years and for embracing us as part of their family," he remarked.
Meanwhile, Catalonia Hotels & Resorts conveyed their excitement about expanding their Caribbean presence. "We are thrilled to broaden our footprint in the Caribbean with this resort acquisition. With over 40 years of experience in tourism as a Spanish hotel chain, this move signifies a significant milestone for our company, bolstering our presence in the Caribbean and reaffirming our commitment to exploring new and vibrant markets," remarked Mr. Félix Navas, General Manager for Catalonia Hotels & Resorts.
Catalonia has outlined ambitious plans for the property, intending to make substantial investments in the coming months to align it with their high standards while upholding a strong commitment to the local community and environment.
"This emphasis on employee well-being and positive local impact perfectly aligns with Jamaica's focus on sustainable tourism development and comprehensive integration within the sector's value chain," Minister Bartlett added.
