Developing A Disciplined Mindset For Career Success Amidst Change

According to experts, a pertinent issue a career practitioner and jobseeker can face during transition period is maintaining a positive career mindset.



They posits that because change is inevitable, a strong career mindset and an arsenal of change management skills are necessities to leading a viable career life.

This was the focus of The Institute of Cooperate Administrators' Management Training Program, 2024, with the theme, Developing A Disciplined Mindset for Career Success Amidst Change.



The training event was projected to x-ray different options that could help professionals function positively in a dynamic world defined by AI and IT knowledge.



In his presentation, Eze, Prof. Sam Ugo Onyeka, Ph.D, Managing consultant and CEO, Eaglinx international and the facilitator of the event in Port Harcourt said it has become common for man to measure success by positions, titles and badges forgeting that holding position of trust does not really determine ones worth, value and potential.



To him, personal growth and development, the impact you make living a fulfilled life, the challenges you overcome, the progress you make and the lessons learnt while exercising God's gifts are Paramount.



"Embracing a diverse definition of success will help one understand that achievement is not a one side fits all but defining your own path and celebrating the milestones one set out that should matter", he noted.



Eze Prof Sam Ugo Onyeka, who was also the chairman of the event defined a career mindset as a blend of several career development theories that have helped job seekers find meaningful employment, giving workers alike opportunities for their careers to grow.



In his words, "A career mindset is a strategic approach to career development that is deliberate and focused on how individuals seek to shape their future and see their career develop and unfold.

" It includes an attitude of flexibility and openness, as well as the view that all opportunities have the potential to advance personal and professional development", he noted.



He continued that success starts with discipline and has certain characteristics. Therefore, an individual that has a career mindset has the understanding that-

*Careers are fluid and require adaptability
*He is opened to accessing paid and unpaid opportunities and
*Have the ability to embrace the unexpected and serendipitous moments of life.



His posits explains the fact that discipline is a prerequisite for success and not luck as many believes. This is because it has been proven that without discipline, even the most talented individuals may fail to reach their potentials.

Eze Onyeka believes if there is anything worth getting, it is building leadership traits, self confidence and aspirations.
It is Maintaining the habit of strong drive and patience, learning to adapt to situations, having strong resilience, learning to build and sustain relationships, engaging in continuous learning, improving innovations and creativity, learning to manage time, staying positive, learning to take risk, learning the art of persistency and attaining excellence at goal setting.



The event which had in attendance, members from all works of life was concluded by a section for questions and answers from the participants and also the presentation of awards to deserving fellows of the institute.
