A Rejoinder To Professor Femi Olufunmilade On 2023 Elections And Self Determination Agitation

To start with, this is a brilliant piece by Professor Femi Olufunmilade and more greese to your elbow.

Also, as a student of political science I kind of lean towards your empirical argument. This is because historically, boycotting an election will not invalidate the result of the election except such election will be boycotted 100%.

However, I am not convinced about the argument that we should mobilize the people for mass participation in the 2023 general elections to unsit the corrupt and bad leaders. The fundamental question is, even with the mass participation, how can we be sure the election is not going to be rigged in favor of the current status quo?

Two, the electoral reform bill that was passed by the Senate under the leadership of senator Bukola Saraki was vetoed by President Mohammed Buhari. It's never see the light of day. One of the basic features of that electoral reform bill is the introduction of the electronic voting system in our electoral law. This would have allowed, to a large extent, a free and fair election. Did Buhari and his cabal not insist on manual voting system in order to continue to falsify and manipulate the result of the election in their own favor.

Three, another big challenge is the national chairman of INEC. "Tell it to the marines that he will not do the bidding of the cabal. He is a Fulani man and he is part and parcel of the so called Fulani agenda. We all saw what he did in 2019 general elections.

Frankly speaking, your strategy is great but how do we cross all of these hurdles?

Moreover, what about the federal might? Buhari will not hesitate to use military might to crush any opposition against his agenda to succeed himself with a stooge or puppet that will consolidate their so called northern hegemony.

Suffice it to say that, the only way out is mass movement that cut across the breadth and length of the country.

Another big question is, who is that natural and charismatic leader that will lead such movement?

Also, where is the synergy for such mass movement in a highly polarized and divided country?

Hmmm, election or no election crisis is looming. Yes, the end of the tunnel is not at sight.

Are we not in a state of political Cul-De-Sac?

In summary, this is a brilliant political solution but is this solution pragmatic in this kind of political scenario?

Only time will tell.
