IS ALEX OTTI'S BREAK FROM THE OLD ORDER OF LEADERSHIP IN ABIA STATE A BEHAVIORAL OPPORTUNISM? BY DAVID ADENEKAN

The whole country was blissful and joyful when the returning officer, Prof. Nnnenna Oti of the 2023 gubernatorial election in Abia state stood her ground against all odds to uphold the tenet of democracy and declared Mr. Alex Otti as the duly governor-elect of Abia state.

It was a sigh of relief for the electorates in Abia state, who, for a long time have been yearned for qualitative and good governance.

To say that the election of Alex Otti as the only governor of the Labor Party in the whole federation; and in a fiercely contested election in Abia state is a watershed in the history of Nigeria's party politics is to say the least. This happened in a country that corruption and its poverty index rates are very high in the comity of nations.

Yes, the people of Abia state defied the logic of the power of money politics and corruption, to elect a governor of their own choice. "Vox Populi Vox Dei!"

May God bless the great people of Abia state for setting the pace for a true and virile democracy in Nigeria. Amen!!

The expectations of the great people of Abia state was to break away from the old order where corruption, sycophancy, opportunism, inept attitude, self aggrandisement, quest for filthy lucre/selfishness, greed, public mistrust and lack of good judgment is very high. Many are expecting Alex Otti to use Abia state as a template to demonstrate the manifestos of Labor Parlty for good governance.

However, the decision to ignore our local manufacturing industries like Innosson and Nord to patronise foreign cars seems like a senseless decision by many concerned citizens. To corroborate the facts of this issue, Mrs. Aisha Yesufu, a chieftain of the Labor Party has queried the decision to ignore our indegenous industries for a foreign company as not a decision that was borne out of the heart but from the head."

Also, that the Chairman of INNOSSON vehicle manufacturing company, Innocent Chukwuma tried to absolve you from the blame by saying you did patronise the company but the type of vehicle you wanted to order for was not available as at the time you sent in your requisition order does not mean you are not erred because, there are other motor industries in the country like NORD that you can patronise.

Did you not give an excuse of durability as the reason you chose to buy those vehicles from foreign country? Why is Innocent Chukwuma (chairman of INNOSSON) trying to change the narrative? Do you think we are fools?

Again, you erred in this instance.

Please, stop the unnecessary image laundering and tender unreserved apology to the good people of Abia state. Lóbátán!

One would have thought the Governor of Abia state, Alex Otti ought to be a pacesetter of good governance in a new Nigeria many people in the Obidatti's movement have been very hopeful to see, for a better Nigeria.

Moreover, how are we sure the decision to ignore our local industries for foreign products was not to ridiculously inflate the budget allocation for this project to favor his so called political patronage, at the detriment of the good people of Abia state?

Is this not another business as usual just like the old order that the Obidatti's Movement is striving to break away from???

Hmmm, the great people of Abia state must ask question!

Yes, political pundits may view the action of Governor Alex Otti's abandonment of indegenous companies for foreign products as aiding the country to be at the verge of economic depression.

The question is, who in his right sense of mind will make a policy that will further deplete our foreign exchange reserves at this critical economic crisis?

Are we not in a dire need of visionary and purposeful leadership that can look inward to pull the country from the brink of economic comatose?

Is this not the reason why some of us are clamoring for a shift in leadership because, the current status quo is not just making life better for the masses?

Yes, the action of Alex Otti to jettison our local industries to buy those vehicles from a foreign country is counter productive and a further depletion in our foreign exchange reserve in a country that there is a very high scarcity of dollars for real investment that will develop our real sectors like agriculture, transportation and health care. This economic blunder is called balance of payment deficit. This is a simple economic logic or term that every governor in Nigeria ought to understand. There is a strong need for concerted efforts to develop our local contents to save the country from over reliance on crude oil, Nigeris is a mono- product economy because oil account for over 90% of its export earnings.

Moreover, the multiplier effects of developing and investing in our local contents are immeasurable.

In addition, the argument for durability cannot be a good excuse in this instance because, the journey for nation building is not a million miles away if we are determined, resolute and focus on our target goals. Also, if we have to get to the optimal standard of good quality, we must buy and promote our home made products to encourage our indegenous industries to improve to a level that their products will favorably compete in the global market.

"Rome was not built in a day!"

Alex Otti, I am one of your great fans but in this instance, you goofed and we put you on the rader!!!

Yes, "to whom much is given, much is required" Luke 12: 48.

Alex Otti, "so ara e o, afi eleyi fa e leti (be very careful and the Obidatti's movement are using this as a warning sign)."

PLEASE, YOU ARE WARNED AND WE ARE WATCHING YOU.....
