The Tourism Gala & Investment Forum 2026 in Mozambique, held from 3 to 6 June in Nampula, concluded with a call for stronger cooperation between African destinations. Tourism officials, government representatives, investors, and industry operators gathered to explore the prospects for tourism development on the continent and ways to enhance its international attractiveness.
Among the participants was Sydney Pierre, Mauritius’ Deputy Minister of Tourism, accompanied by the High Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius to Mozambique, Danielle Perrier. Discussions focused on regional tourism development, strategic investments, and the actions needed to improve Africa’s competitiveness in the global market.
The forum programme took participants from the Nairuco Mountains, an exceptional ecosystem, to the port city of Nacala, before concluding on Mozambique Island, a historic jewel listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On this occasion, the authorities presented eleven national tourism projects aimed at attracting new investments in sectors such as ecotourism, maritime infrastructure, and heritage hospitality.
Speakers emphasized the importance of improving air and maritime connectivity, promoting knowledge sharing, and developing multi-destination travel offerings to stimulate tourism flows across the continent.
At the end of the forum, the organizers—the Government of Mozambique, the Province of Nampula, and Media Craft—were praised for the quality of discussions and their contribution to strengthening dialogue among African tourism stakeholders.
Sydney Pierre highlighted the importance of turning the contacts and commitments made in Nampula into concrete actions that generate economic benefits and sustainable opportunities for participating countries. He also noted that Mauritius will host the next edition of the forum in fourteen months, with the aim of continuing efforts toward stronger African tourism cooperation.
