Prince Qedukwazi Ted Zulu Nominated for the Prestigious Clevenard Media Award 2025 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain

For the first time, the vibrant Mediterranean city of Palma de Mallorca, Spain, will host the Clevenard Media Award 2025 — an international celebration spotlighting excellence in entertainment, entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership, fashion, and community empowerment.

This historic gathering will unite visionary entrepreneurs, cultural icons, government figures, NGOs, and community leaders from across the globe to honor individuals who have transformed society through bold leadership, resilience, and a lifelong dedication to progress.

Among the distinguished nominees is Prince Qedukwazi Ted Zulu, an industrialist, philanthropist, and visionary entrepreneur whose impact has reshaped South Africa’s rail, logistics, and maritime industries.

  • Award Category: Global Leadership & Industrial Innovation
  • Nominee: Prince Qedukwazi Ted Zulu – Founder & Executive Chairman, Solethu Group

A Visionary Industrial Pioneer

Prince Qedukwazi Ted Zulu, affectionately known as “Prince Qedi,” made history over two decades ago by establishing RRL Holdings Pty Ltd, the first Black-owned rail operating company in South Africa. His company pioneered operations on the Transnet mainline and went on to become the first Black-owned enterprise in Africa and globally to design and manufacture locomotives with a 60% local content ratio — a groundbreaking achievement that placed him in the history books of industrial innovation.

Through a series of bold ventures, Prince Qedi expanded his footprint in logistics, shipping, container terminal operations, and infrastructure development, later consolidating his enterprises into the Solethu Group — a 100% Black-owned conglomerate with interests in marine services, infrastructure projects, logistics, technology, real estate, and travel.

His leadership has not only opened doors for greater Black economic participation in historically exclusive industries but has also created thousands of jobs and opportunities across South Africa.

Philanthropy & Community Impact

Prince Qedi’s legacy extends beyond industry — he is a dedicated philanthropist committed to empowering communities, uplifting education, and strengthening faith institutions.

Education: He has built science laboratories, school libraries, and refurbished institutions in underserved regions, while donating laptops and resources to motivate high-achieving students. His annual Menzi High School Awards Ceremony inspires academic excellence, rewarding distinction learners with laptops and recognition. He also sponsors teachers’ retreats to motivate educators, ensuring long-term impact on the education system.

Faith & Culture: Through his devotion to the Anglican Church, Prince Qedi has financed the construction and renovation of churches across South Africa, including multimillion-rand projects such as St. Margaret’s Anglican Church (Nquthu) and St. Matthew’s Anglican Church (Nkande). His unwavering commitment to faith and community development earned him the Simon of Cyrene Award — the highest honor granted within the global Anglican Church.

Social Impact: Through the Solwazi Zulu Foundation, he supports bursaries for disadvantaged students and spearheads social initiatives such as the Durban ICC Christmas Carol Concert, which gathers school shoes and uniforms for children in need. In 2022, the initiative collected over 1,500 pairs of shoes for underprivileged learners.

A Leader Who Inspires

Prince Qedukwazi Ted Zulu’s story is not only one of business triumph but of vision, resilience, and service. He stands as a beacon of African excellence, proving that with determination, strategic foresight, and compassion, one can shape industries, uplift communities, and inspire generations to dream beyond boundaries.

His nomination for the Clevenard Media Award 2025 is a recognition of his extraordinary achievements and a celebration of his lifelong mission to advance African leadership on the global stage.
