Among this year’s distinguished nominees is Chief Ambassador Cllr. Caroline Kalu (Ada Kaibeya Nma 1 Amaokayi Ugwueke Bende LGA, Abia) — a dynamic community leader, humanitarian, and public servant whose tireless dedication has transformed lives across Lewisham, London, and beyond. Currently serving as President of the Rotary Club of Lewisham & Penge (UK), Chief Ambassador Kalu is widely respected for her ability to unite people, address local challenges, and inspire lasting positive change.

Her impactful contributions include:

• Spearheading the opening of Evelyn Community Store, 2CAC Social Supermarket, Lewington Centre Food Store, and Pepys Food Hub to tackle food insecurity.
• Overseeing the supply of over 32,000 free books to 16 primary schools across Lewisham, enhancing literacy and learning opportunities for children.
• Hosting annual Youth Conferences in Evelyn Ward, empowering young people with skills, mentorship, and leadership opportunities.
• Organizing the Evelyn International Women’s Day celebration every year, promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.
• Coordinating the Evelyn Multicultural Event (2019), fostering diversity, inclusion, and community pride.
• Successfully reopening the Evelyn Children & Family Centre, restoring access to essential services such as baby massage, toddler walks, craft sessions, job centre support, and more.
• Negotiating renovations with YouthFirst and Lewisham Council to upgrade the Riverside Youth Club and Adventure Playground.
• Leading infrastructure improvements by collaborating with Glendale and local authorities to fill potholes, maintain green spaces, and improve park equipment in Deptford Park.
• Organizing vital community safety programs, including Stop & Search training, Knife Crime Conferences, and collaborative crime prevention with charities like Good Samaritans.
• Initiating Evelyn Clean-Up Days in partnership with residents and Clean-Up UK, improving neighbourhood safety and pride.
• Advocating for housing improvements by rehousing families into better accommodation, chairing the Evelyn Residents Ward Assembly, attending all TRA meetings, and reporting key issues for urgent council action.
• Establishing five emergency WhatsApp groups during the COVID-19 lockdown to distribute food and essential services to vulnerable residents.
• Speaking out against school exclusions, advocating for better education for children as Vice-Chair for Children & Young People.
• Supporting the Lewisham Young Leaders Academy, launched on 26 September 2021, nurturing the next generation of civic and business leaders.
