Barbara Lawrence-Strydom Nominated for Clevenard Media Award 2025

Category: Cultural Storytelling & Social Impact Leadership

Palma de Mallorca, Spain — The Clevenard Media Award 2025 is set to debut in the vibrant city of Palma de Mallorca, celebrating global excellence in media, entrepreneurship, fashion, innovation, and community empowerment.

This milestone event will bring together exceptional leaders, creatives, and changemakers from across the globe, recognizing those who are transforming society through vision, courage, and dedication.

Among this year’s outstanding nominees is Barbara Lawrence-Strydom, a griot, visionary strategist, ESG expert, and cultural storyteller. Widely known as AuntyB, she is the founder of THE AFRICA I SEE™, a movement grounded in literification—the belief that Africa must unlearn, relearn, and learn itself anew in order to ignite self-determination and amplify Ubuntu across generations.

Raised on a farm in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, Barbara has become a champion of African narratives through merchandise, writing, speaking, and activism. Her storytelling is shaped by lived experience and an extraordinary journey of exploration: from co-leading a 40-day, 12,550 km road trip from Cape Town to Cairo, to embarking soon on the next leg from Egypt to Tunisia. She has also walked a 30 km desert trail in Botswana, hiked Mt. Kilimanjaro twice, and continues to backpack solo across Africa—engaging communities, collecting stories, and weaving cultural connections.

Barbara’s influence extends from grassroots communities to boardrooms. As a mentor, speaker, and facilitator, she has impacted over 3,000 lives through her MasterDreamer Vision sessions, mentoring dreamers under “Africa’s Trees” with vision board workshops and storytelling circles. She is a proud collaborator with Nature, Environment and Wildlife Filmmakers (NEWF) and Wildlife Direct, Kenya, where she supports filmmakers and scientists in integrating cultural and spiritual intelligence into African storytelling.

Her strategic work with royal households and rural villages has birthed sustainable community solutions. With the blessings of elders from the Maasai Mara, First Nations Australia, Alaska, and her own village, Barbara continues to serve as a bridge for heritage, healing, and hope on global platforms.

A former bank manager turned educator and registered facilitator, she brings experience and leadership in governance, ethics, trauma-informed healing, diversity and inclusion, HR strategy, and environmental awareness. Her clients include the Central Bank of Tanzania, Bank of Uganda, Malawi Escom, Botswana Postbank, SADC Water Board, and other national institutions across the continent.

Barbara was honored as Best Social Entrepreneur Africa (CWENA, 2018) and nominated for the GLEBM Exceptional Award of Excellence in Leadership (Abuja, 2022). Her bold vision—“Build Africa each day, one person at a time”—is brought to life through her mission of travel, collaboration, capacity building, and storytelling.

Core Values: Kindness and Continuous Learning.
