Re-awakening The Concept Of Culture In Africa Schools-The CHAMBA Example..

Culture widely defined as the way of life of a people exerts a strong influence on education and can also be the root of educational stagnation or growth.

A constructive look at it in Africa indicates untapped potentials in culture and arts education, across all dimensions of culture and creativity to

improve quality of learning and contribute to vibrant cultural and creative industries, generating employment and economic well being espectially among the youths..

Though some exponents believes that education based on values and traditional system of society got affected when

Africa got colonised by the west and modern education was introduced, it can be modernised by creating a rich blend of old and new.

And the better it will be if inculcated into our educational curriculum at the earliest as no knowledge is obsolete, it can only be improved on.

While Speaking in a brief interview with clevenard.com's Franca Idemudia, the director of CHAMBA International School, Woji, Port Harcourt, Mr. Sunday Asaolu spoke on the schools strong Christian pillar, academic excellence, dedication and moral values and the need of organising a cultural day for its students.

He stated that the school believes in given a child an all round education and cultural values.

According to Asaolu, reintroducing culture based practices into the Nigeria educational system can help resolve the ills of societal decadence and instill societal values in the children.

He concluded by advising the government to reintroduce history as a core subject into the Nigeria educational curriculum as it's study will help build and uphold the country's cultural heritage and achieve a saner society.
