BREAKING: FG Offers Over N60,000 as Minimum Wage

In a significant development, the Federal Government has offered a new minimum wage of over N60,000, which may lead to the suspension of the ongoing strike by the organized labour. This comes after a six-hour meeting between the government and labour leaders in Abuja on Monday.

According to the agreement reached, President Bola Tinubu has committed to establishing a National Minimum Wage higher than N60,000. The Tripartite Committee will convene daily for the next week to finalize an agreeable National Minimum Wage.

The labour leaders have agreed to consider this new offer and hold meetings with their organs to discuss the proposal. The government has also assured that no worker will face victimization for participating in the industrial action.

The Federal Government will resume talks with organized Labour today to continue the minimum wage negotiation, despite the ongoing nationwide strike.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has appealed to labour to return to the negotiation table, citing the significant cost of the proposed minimum wage, which would total N9.5tn annually for the Federal Government.

The Labour Party in Nigeria has also urged the unions to re-negotiate with the government rather than continuing the strike.

This development offers hope for a resolution to the impasse and an end to the strike that has paralyzed various sectors across the country.
