Thanksgiving Service to Celebrate Prof. S.J.S. Cookey at 90 at Opobo

In continuation of celebration of his having turned 90 recently, a thanksgiving service has been held today Sunday 14th April 2024 in Opobo, Rivers State in honour of Professor Sylvanus Sodienye Cookey.

The thanksgiving service drew guests from a plethora of endeavors including Prof. Cookey’s mentees in the academia, royalty of the Opobo kingdom, family, friends, and well-wishers.

The bishop of the diocese of Niger Delta of the Anglican Communion emphasized on the need for people in positions of service to maximize the time they had to serve.

His Majesty, King Danison Jaja, Jeki V, Amayanabo of Opobo kingdom described Prof. Cookey as a man for all seasons who had done a lot for Opobo kingdom and Nigeria.

In response to all that had been said about him, Prof. Cookey said he was happy to still be on his feet and acknowledged that it was quite uncommon for nonagenarians to feel as good as he was on 90th birthday.
