OLÓÒÓTỌ́ ÌLÚ ÒHUN NI Ọ̀TÁ ÌLÚ (The Person That Speaks The Truth To Power Is The Enemy Of The People): A Rejoinder To Yorùbá Must Be Very Careful Not To Let The Other Ethnic Groups In The Country Brand Tinubu's Presidency As A Yorùbá Agenda. By David Adenekan.

"From the equality of rights springs identity of our highest interest. You cannot subvert your neighbor's right without striking a dangerous blow at your own." Carl Schultz.

To start with, it seems the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC is still in the mindset of the immediate past president of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari (as prefixed by The Punch Newspaper) that, "I hope you have a copy of the election results. The constituents, for example, gave me 91% (of the vote) cannot in all honestly be treated on some issues with constituencies that gave me 5%." If not, how do we defend the lopsided appointments in Tinubu's Presidency?

It is pertinent to note that, the key positions in Tinubu's executive council are mostly secured in the hands of his Kinsmen / The So Called Team Lagos in a multi-ethnic society.

The question to ask is that, is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fair and just to the other ethnic groups in the country with this kind of profound lopsided appointments?

Also, how do we achieve a unity in diversity with a lopsided appointments from a President that Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC said he won the last presidential election with a total of 8 million votes out of 93 million registered voters, less than 9% of the registered voters.

Prejudice apart, a closer look at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's executive council will be the centrepiece of this article. Per-adventure, it may provoke a sincere judgment by the people's court, devoid of primordial sentiment and tribalism. The question is, will President Bola Ahmed Tinubu amend his ways and do the needful?

Please, see the list of members of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Executive Council that are from Yorùbá extraction as follows:

1. Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tahoreed Lagbaja.

2. Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

3. Comptroller General of Nigeria Custom Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

4. Controller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs. Adepoju Carol Wura - Ola.

5. Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue FIRS, Zach Adedeji.

6. Governor, Central Bank Of Nigeria CBN, Dr. Olayemi Cardozo.

7. Minister of Finance, Wale Edun

8. Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

9. Minister of Interior Affairs, Olubumi Tunji - Ojo (Tinubu's son in - law, husband to Folasade Tinubu - Ojo, the Iyaloja of Lagos).

10. Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Henry Dele Alake.

11. Chief of Staff to The President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

12. Minister of Transportation, Adegboyega Oyetola (Tinubu's first cousin in Iragboji, Oyo State).

13. Minister of Communications, Innovation &and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani.

14. Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.

15. Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade - John (Tinubu's sister in law).

16. Minister of State for Health & Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa.

18. Accountant General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Shakirat Madehin.

19. Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs.Folasade Yemi - Esan and the list goes on....

Suffice it to say, in no distant time from now, Tinubu's Presidency for a fact is putting Yorùbá as a people in a very difficult situation. This is because, power is transient; and in a constitutional government, the tenure of a president is two terms of 4 years each. The second term of four years is not automatic; the incumbent president must win a reelection for second term.

The quest for balance of power was what Tinubu stood up to fight for as a Senator of The Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1993 when he joined hands with progressive elements (NADECO) to fight for the enthronement of democracy in Nigeria.

Today, Tinubu not already caught in the cobwebs of nepotism and tribalism. What will he gain in sidelining other ethnic groups in a country that belong to all?

Another question one may ask in these seemingly lopsided appointments in Tinubu's Presidency is that, why is Tinubu fanning the fire of hate against his own ethnic group?

Yes, these lopsided appointments are not in the best interest of Yorùbá as a people and it ought to stop now in order to build trust among the six geo political zones (North East, North Central, North West, South East, South-South and the South West) that constitute the political landscape of the country called Nigeria.

Tinubu's Presidency must not put Yorùbá on the side of bad history if Nigeria must remain as a country.

The euphoria of some of my kinsmen that are clapping and dancing over these lopsided appointments will only last for a time and history will remind them of how their tribe man as President (Tinubu), skewed his political appointments in favor of his own kinsmen at the detriment of other ethnic groups.

Suffice it to say, the same Yorùbá people that were very critical about Buhari's lopsided appointments, are the same people praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's lopsided appointments today, "ÀWA LÓKÀN (IT IS OUR TURN)."

Historically, Yorubas are recognized for their respect for justice, fairness and equity, our level of hospitality in treating others the way we want to be treated is unparalleled. Yes, this is who we are.

In the final analysis, is Tinubu coming to bastardize our value system and make other ethnic groups in a multi racial society, view the Yorubas with a scornful eyes that we have a Yorùbá Agenda in a country that belongs to six geo political zones as structured by our patriotic leaders?

I have already prepared my mind for the backlash some of my kinsmen will unleash on me for speaking up against the lopsided appointments in Tinubu's Presidency. They will desperately make attempt to change the narrative and justify this very ugly trend in our body politics.

What a people!

Yes, I am used to it but truth be told.

Hmmm, let the fireworks begin!

Time Will Tell.
