FUNMILAYO LAWUYI-OGUNNIRAN PASSED AWAY -Bolanle Ayankunle

Wife of late Lawuyi Ogunniran (Eégún Aláré) the Yoruba novel writer, has passed away. This was announced by one of her sons, Mr Olatunde Lawuyi-Ogunnoran who is also a Yoruba writer and broadcaster.

According to Olatunde, Mrs Funmilayo Ogunniran was born to the family of Tokun of Oke Ofa Baba Isale over seventy years ago. She grew up under the parential guidance of her mother’s nephew who happens to be the wife of the past Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Osungbade Lana. After her elementary school, she started following Mama Lana to her shop at Old Ogunpa, where she learnt cloth merchandise. She got married in 1969 to Lawuyi Ogunniran and was blessed with children; male and female.

Mama was an active member of a political party in Lagos for many years and was sent to Jerusalem as prigimage in 2012 by the then Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola. She felt sick and after some years of sickness died on 15th March 2023.
The burial arrangement shall be communicated as soon as possible.
