"The child is father to the man/How can he be? The words are wild." This is a raging issue that has continued to attract varying reactions from concerned Nigerians particularly, keen observers of developments in Ondo state, where "Arakurin Akerodolu holds sway as Governor and Chief Executive Officer.

What is trending is the decision of Governor Akerodolu to appoint his son, Babajide as Coordinating Director General of Performance and Project Implementation Monitoring Unit.

A concerned stakeholder, Allen Sowore, in his reaction, penned an article titled, "The Child Is Father to the Man".

In a summation of the article, the writer described the entire appointment of "Babajide" Akerodolu as an unfortunate decision which is deserving of "interrogation of what is it that has gone wrong in Ondo State. Was there really a vacuum to fill intellectually ? Was the appointment done for lack of loyalists in the governor's camp ? Was it greed and covetousness ? And as Africans, should we subject the exercise to spiritualism? Sowore queried.

"I have read the position canvassed by the Ondo State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) and other bootlickers on various new media platforms, where they have been trying hard to justify this outright nepotistic absurdity. I mean the appointment of Babajide as Coordinating Commissioner in the administration of his father".

"How do you postulate and justify how a young man who had only just finished his compulsory National Youth Service Programme within the delightful ambiance of the Government House, Alagbaka, Akure suddenly become the most qualified person to set Key Performance Indicators for his father's cabinet members and by implications his father. Not only that, Babajide is primed by his new appointment to determine the costs of all projects, items, contracts and monitor the implementation of same". Haba!

But this is the situation in Ondo. It has never been this bad.

In reacting to the position of Allen Sowore, a member of the Yoruba in Disapora, Comrade David Adenekan stressed that, it has become a worrisome trend in the politics of Nigeria, where elected officials of Government, particularly State Governors, appoint, not just their sons into positions they certainly do not qualify for, but for the purposes of greed, ignore the outcry and outright condemnation such appointments attract.

Please read the rejoinder from David Adenekan.

A Rejoinder To "The Child Is Father To The Man" And Governor Arakunrin Akeredolu's Display Of Absolute Impunity In Appointing His Biological Son As The Coordinating Director General Of All The Ministries In Ondo State. By David Adenekan.

To start with, what a critical analysis of the total mess and nepotism in Ondo state by the author of the article; "The Child Is Father To The Man". It is simplly called conflict of interest and absurdity of the highest order.

Allen Sowore, kudos to your thoughtfulness and a grasp understanding of sanity in governance.

Love your piece sir and God bless!

Yes, it is an aberration indeed!

The bootlickers, out of shared responsibility and misgovernance will do everything within their powers to justify the absurdity and recklessness of Arakunrin Akeredolu.

Also, in a zeal and greed to corner and steal the resources of the people any thoughtful consideration for public interest is trashed into garbage. It is all about greed, selfishness, self aggrandizement and opportunism. NOTHING MORE.

What a shame!

The question again is, what has his godfather, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu done in Lagos state that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is doing differently in Ondo state?

Prejudice apart, they are all in the same boat in APC. It is called corruption with absolute impunity. "Ìwà a kò sí ẹnì tí yóò mú mi" ("I am the Governor, who can challenge my authority").

It is pertinent to say that, all the governors in Nigeria are hugely benefiting from the complication and the defect of the so-called 1999 constitution.

Are they all not speaking with both sides of the mouth and, very few will condemn the ambiguous and fraudulent 1999 working document if it does not favor them at the federal level?

The fact that Arakunrin Akeredolu as the chairman of Southern Governors Forum is fighting against open grazing and the establishment of state police does not mean he is not benefiting from the defect in the 1999 constitution as it relates to devolution of power, vis a vis; local government autonomy. The fact, is that, the administration of Local Government in Ondo state are by his cronies and stooges. "NO ELECTION".

Is this not one of the reasons we are seriously clamoring for a new Constitution that evolves from the mind of the people of Nigeria? Why is this very difficult to do under the current ruling party (APC), when it is boldly written in their manifesto that they will restructure the country for a better society?

Did former President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan not try to evolve a new trajectory by constituting a National CONFAB to write a new Constitution that may be fair to all?

Did GEJ not hand over the report of the CONFAB at the close of his tenure to President Mohammadu Buhari, and did Buhari not tell the whole world that the great document belongs to the archive?

Suffice is it to say that, the APC government "IS A ONE CHANCE GOVERNMENT" ("A TI WỌ ONE CHANCE").

Moreover, did his political master, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu not once, tell us that "we do not have democracy in Nigeria but civilian government" to justify the power of imposition. Yes, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu is very known for imposition in Nigeria; "BABA SỌ PÉ ". Truth be told.

WHAT A MORIBUND OF DEMOCRACY!

Frankly speaking, it is very unfortunate that the people of Ondo state are rocking the boat with the emergence of another emperor in Nigeria and they may have to live with it for the rest of his tenure, that is, if he will not succeed himself with a wimp and puppet; and also remain the defacto governor of Ondo state just like "BABA OLÓWÓ ÈKÓ " (BAT) is doing in Lagos.

Yes, another emperor is in town and he has learned so much corrupt politics from his master's table.

In another words, if it is working in the so called city of excellence, it should work in the sunshine state. Hmmmm.

However, I hope the great people of the sunshine state will have the audacity and courage to decide their fate and say "CAPITAL NO TO A NEW EMPEROR, ARAKUNRIN ROTIMI AKEREDOLU IN DUE TIME".

ONLY TIME WILL TELL.
