Research around the Economic Community of West African States at this particular time is much needed especially when there are no published literatures that are centered on the Socio-economic impact of the organisation in the sub region.

An assessment on the Economic Community of West African States which is the largest regional organization in West Africa is never an easy task to undertake which is but the largest attempt to do in a scholarly and objective manner. Hence the importance of the work should not be questioned as it also provide knowledge in any analysis that has to do with ECOWAS. It will be unrealistic to examine the socio economic impact of ECOWAS in all its member states singularly or independent (fifteen in total), knowing this very well, I did a holistic examination and as well choose a case study that happens to be my country of origin Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone which is one of the founding members of the ECOWAS, at my time of writing and putting this work together, holds the Speaker of the House of ECOWAS Parliament position; in the person of Dr. Sidi Yayah Tunis. Sierra Leone as well has benefited immensely from the ECOWAS since the establishment of the organization on 28th May 1975 in Lagos, Nigeria.

In a chronological primary and secondary data collection method, I make known many realities about the Economic Community of West Africa States like it core mandate which is to foster economic development among member States among others. It key challenge which the absence of political will among its member states and the organization’s response mechanism to emergencies in the sub region and in Sierra Leone specifically.

The information in this work can be beneficial to facet in academia and the content itself explanatory, with each of the five chapters having unique idea and analysis, but with high sensitivity of not losing the essence of my topic.

I urge the ECOWAS as one of the regional bloc to look at my work because it can be beneficial to facet at all levels.....
