KWARA CRISIS: FORCING HIJAB ON CHRISTIAN SCHOOL IS BARBARIC -CHIEF IMAM YORÙBÁ

KWARA CRISIS: FORCING HIJAB ON CHRISTIAN SCHOOL IS BARBARIC -CHIEF IMAM YORÙBÁ

REGARDING THE HIJAB SAGA THAT CAUSED A CLASH BETWEEN MUSLIM AND CHRISTIAN INDIVIDUALS IN ILORIN FEW DAYS AGO, SHEIK huABDULRAHEEM ÀDÚÀNIAGBÀ, THE CHIEF IMAM YORUBA IN THE CITY, HAS OUTLINED THAT THERE IS NO NEED FOR RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION IN NIGERIA. WHILE SPEAKING ON A TELEVISION INTERVIEW, HE EXPLAINED FURTHER THAT NIGERIAN LAW PERCEIVES ALL PERSONS AS EQUAL IN THAT NO INDIVIDUAL OR ORGANIZATION(RELIGIOUS) SHOULD BE SUPERIOR TO ANOTHER, AND THAT RELIGION SHOULD NOT BE A REASON FOR EDUCATION TO FALL APART.

ABDULRAHEEM FURTHER CLARIFIED THAT IF A SCHOOL IS OWNED BY A CHRISTIAN BODY( LIKE THE BAPTIST CHURCH THAT IS THE BONE OF CONTENTION) AS AN INSTANCE, PARENTS WHO CANNOT ADHERE TO THE PRINCIPLES OF SUCH SCHOOL REGARDLESS OF RELIGIOUS DIFFERENCES SHOULD BETTER NOT ALLOW THEIR WARDS TO GO THERE, AND VICE VERSA.

ACCORDING TO HIM, THE ISSUE OF RELIGIOUS CONDEMNATION IS ONE OF THE TACTICS OF THE FULANI HERDSMEN TO GAIN REGIONS FOR THEMSELVES IN YORUBA LAND AT THE EXPENSE OF HARMONY IN NIGERIA.

HE ALSO POINTED OUT THE FACT THAT THERE'S THE NEED FOR PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN ISLAM TO NOTE THAT GOD HAS NOT CREATED ONLY THE ISLAMIC RELIGION. THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE OF DIVERSE BELIEFS OTHER THAN ISLAM.

CONCLUSIVELY, HE APPEALS TO THE KWARA STATE GOVERNOR TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE REASONABLY.
