THE NIGERIAN MINING AND GEOSCIENCES SOCIETY 2021 PRESS CONFERENCE

The Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) will hold its 2021 annual conference and exhibition with activities lined up to mark the event, starting from Monday 15 to Thursday 18 March 2021.

This was disclosed by the president of the society, Engr Obadiah Simon Nkom in a press conference held on the 12th, March, 2021 at the Faculty of Geology, University of Ibadan, Ibadan Oyo State, Nigeria. He noted that the theme for this year’s conference is “Responsible Exploration and Exploitation of Mineral Resources in a Secured Environment.” He added that year 2020 conference was rescheduled due to the covid-19 pandemic for this year 2021.

He described this year’s conference as a hybrid one, saying, on Monday 15, March, there will be a pre-conference panel discussion, the fifty-sixth (56th) Annual General Meeting of the society, including admission and induction of six hundred and thirty new members (630) into the society.

In the same vein, on Tuesday 16, March, there would be an official ceremony, where important dignitaries will be honored, including President Muhammadu Buhari, who is also the grand patron of the society, Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde and all southwest governors, as well as the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, Alhaji Arisekola Alao, Surveyor Alabo Charles among others.

The release added that, on Wednesday 17, March, there will be an award and gala night, where awards will be given to deserving members of the society, adding that technical sessions will be virtual and will start on Tuesday afternoon till Thursday morning.

Engr. Nkom however called on the public to look out for the various links where some sessions will be streamed live for participation.

On his final note, he urged the Press on the ground to use their profession for nation-building by shunning partisan journalism
