LASEMA Averts Another Secondary Incident on Lekki-Ikoyi Link bridge ... Rescues Another Suicidal Young Man

In a just concluded operation LASEMA Response Team has recovered a Toyota Camry car involved in a road collision on the bridge.

The late morning incident which saw the said Toyota Camry with registration number AAA 708 GC laying on it's roof after colliding with a broken-down stationary vehicle in a secondary accident.

Preliminary Report on the in incident has it that,
"Upon arrival of the LASEMA Reponse Team to the aforementioned location, a Toyota Camry vehicle with registration number AAA 708 GC was found upside down as a result of running into another stationary car which broke-down on the bridge

"However, the female driver which was the only occupant of the vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital before the arrival of the response squad.

"The accident vehicle was upturned. It was recovered off the road to ensure free flow of vehicular activities

"Recovery Operation Concluded"

Similarly, earlier today, an attempted suicide was successfully intercepted by LASEMA Marine Unit.

The suicide attempt was foiled by one of the divers from the LASEMA Marine Unit which responded to the Lekki-Ikoyi Link bridge incident.

Actions of the suicidal 27 year old orphan attracted the attention of passers-by on the bridge, who inturn reported it to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, at about 22:35hrs yesterday, 17th October 2020.

The report activated a series of actions which kick-started the state's emergency response to the rescue of the Anambra State indigene, who resides in Ejigbo axis of Lagos State, which eventually led to an overnight operation that terminated at about 03:50a.m today.

Following it's intervention, members of the LASEMA Marine Response Unit were able to 'pilot' the listless, suicidal young man away from "the jump off point" after much persuasions, counseling and successful conviction, that the young bachelor had no reason to commit suicide, rather that he had every reason to continue living and being alive.

It was established during the operation, that the rescued young man who could not give coherent explanations as to why he was contemplating suicide, has been on medications and had infact been undergoing therapy for a while, in a leading state owned tertiary institution, as confirmed by his personal physician.

These revelations were made by the suicidal young man while being counseled during the sensitive rescue operation, before being handed over to the Agency’s Paramedics for proper medical examination and further examination.


"About 22:35hrs on 17th October 2020, a suicidal case was reported to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA.

"Response was immediately activated to the scene to rescue the life of the young man (name witheld), who hails from Anambra State, but resides in Ejigbo area of Lagos state.

"The LASEMA Marine Response Unit was able to convince/rescue the young man from being suicidal and took him off the jump off point.

"He was later examined by the Agency’s Paramedics (Bravo Team) before being handed over to Good Samaritans (JIMMY ODUKOYA AND ADEYEMI OKANLAWON) who pleaded to ensure adequate therapy and psychological counseling for the victim to ensure his balance

"Details of the Samaritans were documented by the Marine Response Unit, in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Officers at the incident scene.

"Operation Concluded"
