Meet my guest

Jamela Mhlongo-Robertson is a Child of the Limpopo Province, in the Northern parts of South Africa. Born and bred in Dan village near a small town called Tzaneen, Jamela returned to South Africa in the year 2000, from the United Kingdom, after 10 years in the diaspora. She then began her career in South Africa, where she has been working in the gender justice sector since she returned to her Mother Land. A devoted and passionate Activist in the promotion of respect for equal human rights, Jamela has worked in this area in academic, public, and private institutions, as well as community-based organisations, both in South Africa and abroad. She returned home to South Africa specifically to contribute to this course, following the legacy of apartheid, which is characterised by gross socio-economic and political inequalities. Jamela is an author of an autobiography, capacity-development material on gender mainstreaming, and books for foundation and intermediate-phase learners, on gender and HIV/AIDS. Jamela holds a Masters of Science in Medicine (MSc. Med) and is a Consultant in the gender justice sector.
