A Nigerian student of Cyprus International University, Mr. Okail Illemona Shedrack has been arrested in the republic of Benin.

It has come to our notice that a Nigerian student of Cyprus International University, Mr. Okail Illemona Shedrack has been arrested in the republic of Benin. As a Nigerian student body in diaspora saddled with the responsibility of welfare, equitable and fair treatment of Nigerian Students outside Nigeria, we want to bring it to the knowledge of the public that we have immediately swung into action not only to know what led to the
arrest of the student but to also make sure that his fundamental human rights are essentially protected.

It is in view of this that we have established communications with Nigerian Ambassador to the republic of Benin, His Excellency Dr. Olukayode Aluko who in turn has also stepped into action and has been amazingly helpful in getting to know what the issues are and the possibility of resolving the matter. In addition, we are collaborating with the leadership of NANS Nigeria to ensure that the matter is well tackled.

We want to assure the public that we would give this matter our very best intervention to make sure that the right of the said student and that of all other Nigerian student across the globe are not in anyway violated. We want to express our immeasurable gratitude to the Nigerian Ambassador in the Republic of Benin for his swift, relentless, and productive intervention so far. His act of care, passion for Nigerian youth and students is highly commendable, Thank you Your Excellency!

While we wait for the outcome of the findings, we urge all Nigerian students in Diaspora to shun violence, be law-abiding citizens and promote peaceful coexistence in their respective countries of residence.
